The writer does not puport that the list is arranged in order of most or least safe, or in alphabetical order, South Africa is on there, as it should be, but it is just a list of 20 places, among the ost dangerous on earth, from the journo's POV - and I trust a journo as far as I can throw him

South Africa suffers from a high level of violent crime, including rape and murder, although most visits to the country are trouble-free as the majority of cases occur in townships and areas away from tourist destinations. Robberies and car-jackings at gunpoint are increasingly common.

Sudan, Nigeria, Burundi and Zimbabwe are on the list

Nigeria, crime free? I don't believe it....

Zimbabwe, crime free? Yeah, of course... there's nothing to steal in the first place :p

In Nigeria they don't steal from you, they con you out of money, when I was in Lagos, at the airport, a policeman took my luggage, told me I had to pay 40 dollars for a permit to take it into the country, when i protested, he said he would arrest me, not particularly wanting to experience the hospitality of a nigerian jail cell, i obliged and handed over the two twenty dollar bills, he then waived me off, and guess what ? no permit in sight

When I left, one of the customs officials counted the pages in my passport and said I had to pay ten dollars for each page, when i said no, he said I can't go through, so i begrudgingly paid the 80 or so dollars, even the lady in a toilet extorted 2 dollars out of me to take a ****in piss

I'm well aware of what goes on in Nigeria... it's one of the top 5 most corrupt countries on earth... (SA is 115th).

Bleh...

In South Africa they don't steal from you, they break into your house rape your wife & daughter and you get beaten to death.

If the "suspects" feel like it they will maybe take a cellphone or some cash that was lying around.

Well, I didn't really want to hang around to find out, I gave him the forty bucks, and gtf outta there, but i paid off alot of policemen on that trip, luckily my company reimbursed me for all the bribes I had to pay - made a little out of it too - exchange rates :D

Even though we're 4th on that list... Does anyone notice that the 3 places above us are pretty much official war zones?

I'm glad we beat Jamaica - the place where Bob Woolmar was strangled to death in his own hotel room. Least our hotel rooms are safe. It would terrible if a 2010 football player was raped/murdered in a cloak room. That could really tarnish our image.

Beat? Is there really any indication that this isnt some arbitrary list rather than a ranking?
