So you suggesting that he should be sent in AFTER Boucher? LoL

In this game yes. We need 8 an over when mac went in. In such a situation you need to go straight away. Mac always takes his time to get settle. Boucher and morkel were the better options. If they failed and mac had to come in we would have probably lost anyway but if they come of by going in earlier we probably win the game.

Very close match today. I also agree that we would have won it if we had a higher run rate in the middle overs.

But hey, we didn't lose by much, so their shouldn't be any major concerns about our form.

I reckon with 100 balls to go the match was ours. I noticed the gap between runs needed and balls remaining slipped from 5 to 10 to 20 to 30 and by that time we needed 10 an over. What killed us was AB's wicket, after he was run out we lost momentum but still, didn't really lose by much because of decent death bowling by the Aussies.

Oh well, Friday is the next match, nice break for the guys.

Four wickets in hand and on several occasions in last few overs no risky singles or second run attempted, or even very risky hitting.

Where are the cynics?

To still have wickets in hand and lose by 5 runs is inexcusable IMO.

Poor planning and strategising, its not like Aus was all over them or even tight in the field. The last 3 overs they should have went for it.

Kallis for me should be dropped, man i hate his style in one day games. kallis is an aweosme test player and thats where it should end, amla is a great test player as well and that is where it should end.

The amount of times kallis has slowed us down to the point of slogging is crazy. The sad thing is kallis can smack a ball far but he seems more interested in making 60 off 80 than taking some risks and going out for 40 off 30. Stats seems to be his focus more than scoring rapidly.

Kallis and Amla are needed for the ODI squad! Full stop!
ODIs are still won in the 20 - 40 over, people tend to forget that.
A strike rate of 75 is perfect and they do their job.

I think our usage of the batting powerplay needs to be looked at. In the last 5 overs Boucher, Morkel & co need to be able to score at 8 to 10 an over regardless of field settings as long as we have wickets in hand.
I'd much rather use it between overs 30 & 40 once a decent partnership has formed like we've had in both games so far and get an extra 15 or 20 runs there, and then put less pressure on the lower order, they cant be expected to come in in the 45th over and score 50 off the powerplay

Disagree. There's nothing wrong with the current usage of the powerplay when chasing. This way is the way 99% of teams use it around the world in the domestic scene.

The other day we scored enough in the powerplay overs. AB and kallis not going at 4/5 in the middle overs is where we lost it.

If we bat first its fine to take it earlier since then you want to go faster earlier to set a bigger target.

JK amla is fine and hopefully he will find his feet but kallis is just rubbish for accelerating our run rate, when your only 2 wickets down you can afford to take a few chances and ensure we stay within target to win, it does not mean from over 20-40 you can slow the run rate down because from the 20th-40 you should only look for 3 runs an over.

Go out there to score and score fast where possible, the reason we suck as a one day team is because we believe test cricket should apply from the 20-40th over. The aussies look to score fast the entire 50 overs and i can assure if you of one thing if ponting gets his team to only 2 down in the 30th over they will hit runs and lots of them.

We are only playing on friday again :(

Hope we can go 2-1 up in the series.

This must be one of the most evenly matched contests I have ever seen.

That is what has surprised me with this series (so far), given our form in ODI form of the game, I would have thought the Aussies would just roll over us.

Aye, especially with J. Botha as captian

But Im proud of the boys, and it just goes to show what a little self belief can do for a team.

But I can not wait for Smith to come back :D
