If i was the selectors (thank heavens i'm not:D) i'd drop Morne, Boucher and Harris.

Give the gloves to AB, bring in Prince and Albie and give Botha the ball (even if he isn't much better than Harris...he proved he does have a brain in Aus and he can bat a bit). That would make our tail significantly shorter with the only true tailenders being Ntini and Steyn...and it wouldn't mess with the balance of the team either.

A bit drastic...and a bit of a pipe-dream but hey...i aint a selector so i'm allowed to dream. :p

AB has said many times that he does not want to keep wicket, he wants toe concentrate on his batting. That aside, he has not kept wicket really since he started playing international cricket (no, a couple of T20's does not count). So if you give him the gloves, he will have to spend a lot of time getting his keeping up to standard, and that will definitely take away from his batting. So AB will not take over the gloves from Boucher.

Albie is just not a test player i feel.

If Botha does well in the first class games going on at the moment, i cant see how they can leave him out of the test squad.

Morne is bowling crap, he needs to at least be more economical.
He's supposed to be the new Pollock, but in my view, he's a disappointment.

Harris isn't doing too badly, reckon they'll keep him.

Wth? New Pollock? I doubt he is in there to be a pollock;) He gets bounce at around 140-145kmph thus I think he is more of a wicket taker. Kallis and harris are there to dry up the runs.

don't think Boucher will be dropped till he retires ;)

IMHO i don't think dropping harris is an option to the selectors ....
harris has been bowling well lately and more importantly he's been getting the desired results... i'm not a harris fan but credit has to be given to him.

I don't like him either, but he's got a pretty decent record for a spinner so far.

Why do we have to be happy with not to bad? Yes he isn't really doing anything that merits him being dropped but I feel we have better spinners who could also bat a bit more ;) (ok ok I would also like to see these spinners play another year of domestic crick :D)

Prince in place of?

Definitely not replacing Smith, Kallis, Amla, JP, Bouch or McKenzie.

why not Mckenzie? He's old, he cant play cricket, hes not a good opener, hes not good at number 5...
why does he even play!!??

Prince in for Mckenzie!!!

i hope Macky doesnt play on Friday, if he does he wont make more than 50 in both innings!!! And Proteas will lose....

At one stage he scored 3 runs of 49 balls, wtf?? Thats a problem even in test matches, keep the score board ticking with singles.

Nha Morne is much more of a test player than albie IMO. But maybe Albie has changed a bit. I still say replace harris with Roelf VD Merwe.

If Albie isn't a test player than van der merwe is even less so.

Roeloff's first class stats: 34 with the bat and 38 with the ball. His bowling isn't good enough for test cricket.

If we want to replace harris we need to do it with a wicket taking spinner which basicly means we have to stick with harris till tahir supplies us with another option.

Lol the Aussies have a new Pollock, that ginger head guy, he even bowls like Polly!

Must not remember polly well in you think this guy is even close to polly. He is even slower than what shaun was at the end of his career. Also he can't bat to save his life as he has shown in his 3 test innings.

Hes not exact Polly, but he bowls medium/slow staight line and length and bang on target every ball, they not attacking they just there to slow the run rate and slow the game down.... still not like Polly???
And the ginger hair!!:p
Hes the new Polly!!!
As for batting, I wouldnt suggest he learn to bat, if their number 9 can score 97* dont teach him how to bat!!!!

Depends are you guys taling about siddle or mcdonald?

Macdonald I think, the crowd was singing old macdonald yesterday!:p

Tahir(29) and harris (30) are a bit old imo to train as world class spinners. Roelf (24) is not :) Also he bats better than harris ;)

I was not putting Albie vs vd merwe because they are two different players and they would never compete for the same spot in the side im sure.

Tahir is already a wicket taker age might be an issue but seeing as their aren;t many wicket taking options as spinners in SA I would go with him. I am always in favor of a leggie ahead of an off spinner.

Polly only started doing that very late in his career when he lost his zip. Before that he bowled to take wickets. He was our strike bowler for 10 years. I don't see them as similar at all, maybe the hair but I give polly the edge there as well.

Very true I also prefer a leggy above an off spinner, but I would rather go with the one we could build on for the future. But I am still hoping for a good young leggy to come through the ranks soon.

If I had Mckenzie's wife, I wouldn't have time for cricket. :)

Yes we do. JP is not a spinner. He is a part timer like michael clarke, sehwag, tendulkar. All of them can do a good job for a limited period but they can't bowl you 20+ good overs an innings. They are batsmen who can bowl.

Agreed, and Id prefer him as a batsmen over a bowler.
But to waste a position for Harris who is very standard is also not a good idea.
break the overs up, Smith, Amla and Duminy are decent spinners when needed especially on the last days of the test when the wicket is really stuffed.
I dont think we should just throw in a spinner for the sake of it.
What was Harris stats for this match?

Our side at the moment (bar Mack) is pretty d@mn good !
i think their biggest problem over the last test was lack of respect for the aussies!
That shouldn't be the case now, so for the 2nd test i expect a win!

I do think Mack needs to go now...bring in Prince and move up De Villiers ???

Nha mackie did well in the context of the game. Give him a chance we all know he can bat, he scored 1000 runs last year IIRC.
