Correct me if i am wrong but we do not look positive at all.

That has more to do with our first innings than our second.

Yes, it is very disappointing to be in this position after the highs in Australia, but I think it is a little more complicated than "being positive".

What, did you think we'd go out and beat the highest ever fourth innings total in >100 years of test cricket by 150 runs, if only we had a positive attitude?

Chis did you think for one second we could bat out one and a half days? hell no so why not go for it and either get close or be a mile from it.

We lose trying to bat the days out, we lose trying to get the score. Hmmm either way we lost but we never gave ourselves a chance to see if we could win.

Same thing in the last test, lets try bat the days out even though it's going to near impossible. Why not go for the runs and lose!! why try and bat the days and still lose.

We look worse now because we put up no fight again. Rather look like a bunch of sissie boys and lose then look like heroes going for the runs and lose :).
Chiskop can you tell me without a doubt in your mind in the last 2 tests if we had not gone for it like a one day game we would have not won? Records are there to be broken, do you remember 438? nobody in their right mind thought we would get that total, the bookies had us at 50/1 to win and we won.

That my friend was a world record, records are there to broken if someone just TRIES.

So your thought process is rather block and leave deliveries and lose than play one day style cricket and lose? With this kind of attitude no wonder we cannot run with the aussies and only win from losing positions.

If these 2 stay there for another 2 hours we can draw.

@ Bob... watch Morkel and Boucher, they leaving all the short balls, and all the wide balls they not even trying to play it.

Do you still think they trying for the win?

Yes I did. I saw Atherton do it at Centurion 15ish years ago and it was the most heroic thing I've ever seen on a cricket field.

More recently I saw Prince do it in England.

Yeah, a draw is not a win, but it's still better than losing - and from the position we're in, I'll definitely take it.

You admit then that playing one day style cricket means we lose?

We were thoroughly outplayed in the first innings, and no amount of positive thinking or one day style cricket will change that.

dude, whats your problem? what have you got against me? where did I say they are going for the win?

I said that I dont think they went out yesterday and this morning playing for a draw.

But it is obvious, to any one with half a brain cell that at the moment they are playing for time. Because like we established earlier, tactics change.

We were not out played, our negative thinking allows ponting to go on the attack and it affects us badly. We do not score runs which builds pressure.

Yes we could lose playing one day no doubt about it but we could also win, we cannot block against this aussie attack we saw it in the last test, do you think that 414 against aus in aus the SECOND highest total ever chased eas chased by a bunch of South African Batsmen blocking and leaving 90% of deliveries? They batted positive. For some reason the last 2 tests have been nothing but negative blocking and leaving.

Smith is massive for us i believe because when he is in he bats like it's a one day more than anyone else and if he gets 60-+ its normally done pretty quickly which gets us moving, removing his positive starts out and all we can do is block leave block leave.

Calling someone a fool and putting words in their mouth is not arguing.

If you want to argue a point, then do it. Dont be childish and sarcastic.

Well I expected more than "the batsmen know what to do" from you...
Buuut anyway...

7 down, Steyn, Ntini Smithers should stay in, and accept defeat....

Penguin there is no shame in losing man, it is the way we are losing that is getting to me.

We are being made to look like Zimbabwe, for 5 days of cricket we never have the upper hand, that is not good.

Remember the one rule in sport that everyone knows:

Your only as good as your last game :p

Jk defeat was always going to happen just like in the last test match, anyone who thinks we can block for a day and a half against an Aussie team must not realize how good they are. We will never know if we could have won either of these 2 tests batting one day style chis :), all i know is that by trying to draw the last 2 test matches we have been well beaten.

Oh well, we beat them in their backyard and they returned the favour.

We need to win the last one to make it 3-3.

Nice going South Africa. Once again you are a failing cricket team. Too drunk from the OZ experience ??? Looks like it.

SA did win against a struggling Aus side, and their loss to India helped us...

But the next game lies on Mackies head!!
He better not play!
