You can have the most talented players in the world but if their mentality is not right it is useless.

I for one thought the aussie domination of world cricket was ending but as usual super stars creep up out of no where :), guess they are alot like us they pump out super stars only difference is they seem to have a winning mentality.

Lets all hope Khan can repeat his performance against the Aussies.

OK,

Water under the bridge now, but Mac's dismissals were a lot different to that of Amla's etc.

Amla chased a wide ball, could have been smashed through cover, but got caught.

Mac consistently got out because he nibbled at balls outside off. Same with Kallis yesterday putting his bat to the ball instead of ducking or swaying, same with the way Smith gets rapped on knuckles.

With Amla flashing outside off, maybe a bad choice, but 80% of time it gets driven. With the other blokes its technical deficiency (they are not the only ones), because what good can come out of the way Mac playedor even Kallis' shot...you'd be lucky to get a run through slips or over, so leave the bloody ball alone if not playable or not hitting wicket.

As for match tempo, I have said long ago and against the Cronje fans that it started under him. At the time Waugh got the Aussies to start putting on big 1st innings totals at a good rate, SA were still stuck with "250 is good enough for a day" and we can win if the other team plays bad.
Its a mindset of not turning over strike and letting bowlers dominate.

Prince back is good, but he shoudn't open...he will anchor and may drag Khan down to his pace. Either AB or Amla and get the score rattling or go home.

cheers

Ozzie i fully agree with that, prince is far to slow to open and ab should have taken the spot rather.

Ozzie your spot on with the mindset of not turning over strike and allowing the bowlers to dominate when they happens and happens your in big trouble.

Ok so they bringing in Prince yay
They making him open... hmmmm
And they added Khan to the line up.

Any bowling changes apart from pulling out Morkel?
I think they killing Steyn by relying on him so much, he is way out of his league hes averaging less than 140kmph...

Khan and Prince opening...

Morkel out for Padafjdsafnfa (Whatever his name is)

Think we should rest Boucher and give Daryn Smit a chance... Think he is a better batsman.

Who will be our 4 main bowlers or are we going in with 3 and a couple of part timers?

Either parnel or albie morkel will play in morne's spot. The attack will be steyn,ntini,harris,morkel/parnell and kallis.

I think this fresh change will do well for SA. I just hope Prince is up to the task, captaining a test is not as easy as a one day. Experience and good strategy will be key

Heard on the news that Kallis will captain, not Prince, "to give Prince a chance to concentrate on his new role".

I think I'd prefer Boucher as captain.

I was really impressed with Botha from the ODI series in Australia, and I (as have some others) commented that he should be included in the test team. But somehow the selectors don't seem to be noticing him.

He isn't a good first class or test bowler. Go and look at his figures in the super sport series this season. He isn't even in the top 20 for wickets. When harris played he did very well in it and Imran Tahir is second top wicket taker in the country. Botha will not be part of the test team he just isn't a good enough wicket taker for that type of cricket. Tahir will be the test spinner soon, he qualifies on 1 April to play for SA.

Unless Prince himself asked for it, what does that decision tell him?

To me it is that Prince is unlikely to be the long term replacement for Mac, and that they are hoping that if Khan succeeds, then it will be a one-off for Prince and a home swan song.
Otherwise it would be difficult to justify dropping him if they still regard him as vice captain.

But its is only SA selectors (ok maybe WI too) that would do something so indecisive. I don't think the Aussie selectors would ever not be clear cut as to who is leading the team.

I think Prince should just say, "thanks but you are putting me in a 'no win' situation, I will just bow out on my record prior to getting injured".

btw I thought Mac led the team when Smith was injured in Sydney, and not Kallis as reported by cricinfo. IIRC, the Kallis actually turned it down and Boucher is not favoured due to wicket keeping role, though he ended up doing most of the field placing for Mac, not Kallis.

cheers
