PL Harris (sla) 3.0 0 3 0 1.00 (0nb, 0w) 1-0-1-0 22 57 33.73

Recent overs . 1 . . 3 . | . . 4 . . . | 1 . . 1lb . . | . . 2 4

Current partnership 92 runs, 20.4 overs, RR: 4.45 (Ponting 50, Clarke 41)

Last bat MEK Hussey c Kallis b Morkel 4 (21b 1x4 0x6) SR: 19.04
Fow: 38/3 (14.6 ov); Partnership: 20 runs, 6.1 overs, RR: 3.24 (Ponting 14, Hussey 4)

35.4 Morkel to Ponting, FOUR
35.3 Morkel to Ponting, 2 runs, brings Ponting onto the front foot again, defending and edging past gully
35.2 Morkel to Ponting, no run, pitched up outside off stump and Ponting shoulders arms
Its been a massive spell of swing from Morkel and Ponting's quixotic innings continues.
35.1 Morkel to Ponting, no run, oh well bowled, and the first referral of the innings! Morkel's superb spell continues, he pitches one on the dime and moves it back in sharply, a tentative Ponting thrusts forward and is late on the shot, there's noise as the ball cuts back in and goes on, Boucher takes at a good height and they all appeal ... Billy Bowden is unmoved and Smith asks for it to be referred ... and replays indicate the ball brushed Ponting's back thigh pad ... not out is the verdict, South Africa use up a referral, and Ponting survives

...update for anyone interested

Good chance that the ball edged the bat , but could ony be seen from the angle from behind shown only once.

What's the point of having referrals if you are not going to use infra red 'hot spot'? That is absolutely conclusive for doubtful edges, inside edge to pad etc.

It may be that Channel 9 has rights to that technology... or is it used elsewhere?

The type of referrals as has just been done is in most cases going to be hard to overturn.

the 'hot spot' is a Channel 9 technology and only used in Aus. For the referrals the 3rd umpire can only watch replays, cant use any 'outside' technology.

I heard a rumour from an SABCite that there is a new station manager at R2000 who wanted to drop the cricket. I didn't realise his plan was already in action.

You can contact the station here.

If they are not really expensive go for it! We don't play Aus every year and rarely do we have a good chance of winning a series :p

Think of it this way, if you don't and its a good days cricket you will hate yourself.
