Just to derail this conversation somewhat...

Supersport get their F1 feed from the BBC who film it in WS format, and we've SEEN that Supersport get that native WS feed because they've broadcast it once or twice (and it looked awesome), and then for some unknown gawdforsaken useless reason they chop it back to 4:3...

Monkeys.......

Yup as i thought, your question cannot be answered because nobody has ever landed an awesome car like hammi :p, name me another then hehe.
Nelson Piquet hasn't done too badly landing himself a drive with Renault 1st up... Kubica got a ride in a reasonably strong BMW/Sauber team in his rookie year...

Ok either of those cars capable of winning a championship? Nope.

Piquet has not done to badly, kubica showed what he can do in a semi decent car last season but neither have had a car that challenge for wins every race

Some may argue that the Mclaren was a car incapable of winning a championship too. Think about it. Mika and DC last won the drivers and constructors championship in 98. Since then Mclaren is yet to win the manufacturers title and that's despite the best efforts of Kimi, Alonso and Hamilton. Hamilton handed them a drivers title in 2008, 10 years later!!!

Rubbish, anyone who argues the mclaren was not capable is just being silly.

The mclaren in hamilton's first and second year was an amazing car man, i would put those 2 seasons down as mclaren's finest car since the prost/senna days.

Anyways i know no other rookie since i have been watching f1 has landed an amazing car first year out. You say it may not have been a good car but hamilton drove it well? then why is the mclaren this year off the pace with hamilton driving it? Just because you have a race winning car does not mean you will win the constructors. Massa won more races than hamilton but never won the championship. So the logic there is flawed somewhat.

Also one of those 2 seasons they had all their points taken away so they had no chance.

Provide me another example in any sporting code where a rookie has come out and matched/beaten the defending/reigning world champion...

I tried to answer your question, now you...

Well we are not debating other sports and only f1 :). I cannot answer your question as the only motorsport i watch is f1. Anyways considering it has never happened in f1 we will get nowhere haha with the debate so i will say hamilton took his chance and became world champion, well done to him and he did drive the sox of the mclaren, as for being a legend the next few seasons shall reveal that a bit more :) because i see f1 being more than a 2 horse race from this season onwards.

Fair emuff, Unfortunately it seems F1 will forever be decided in either the boardroom, on the drawing board, in the pits and only sometimes on the race track. That's the nature of the beast.. The drivers are at the mercy of their engineers, bank managers and team mates...
