There will be no replacement driver for Massa on the circuit. Massa underwent surgery yesterday and is recovering. Reports reckon he'll be out for at a month, maybe till the end of the season.

God this is just awful. :(

:(:(:(:(

Yup...sure is! Hope he'll be ok with a speedy recovery! Now I have to support another driver for the time being!

Oh...tried to watch the crash on youtube but can't due to stupid copyright restrictions!!! Anyone have or know of a local link or non-youtube perhaps?

I didn't see it strike him during qualifying. I only saw him lose control and drive straight into the wall. It was a very strange accident and nobody could tell us what was going on. Scary ****.

Yeah...and if you look at that photo a few pics up....that's quite a bit of damage!! And all that from a spring! Not to mention that F2 driver that died last Sunday. He too was hit on the head, but this time by a tire from another racer which caused him to lose consciousness and run into the wall. Guess it's time to recheck safety.

No they had it during qualifying and you could see the piece of metal striking him. It was not exactly small either.

EEK there is not much they can do in all honesty, motor racing is dangerous and the people who get into the sport know this and safety wise i think f1 is pretty safe with very few incidents.

Yup, too true! It's the nature of the sport...but you know it's going to raise some questions on the matter, and if something can be done it will probably be so. I do agree on the safety of F1 though, since Ayrton Senna's death, F1's done so much to make the cars safer and there's not been a fatality since, and that's fantastic!

Go Hamilton you beauty!
:p

Redbull getting it wrong today - eish.

What happened with Kimi at the start? Thought that was going to be another FIA call...

Hamilton is absolutely running away with it atm... it's not over till the x-flag tho. Webber and Kimi's tyres looking bad atm... perhaps Rosberg can step up?

Ja, interesting to see if that was a fast track car - how will it do on a slower circuit... that car is cooking.

Nice one Hamilton. Pity about Alonso. Luck just wasn't on his side today.
