Sack gibbs.
Biff only a batter.
Put Amla as captain.
Roelof is crap.
Not decent spinner
Not decent batter
Get a genuine player.
Useless.

I am going to sleep now..........
sigh........

Explain why you want to whine about these fine players after one game?

Reolof has bowled superbly in a number of games and in tandem with Botes has been influential in winning a number of games.

If you could do better, why aren't you out there?

Have you ever watched a cricket match before this one? Have you ever seen a runner on the field? Funny thing is I have! They are usually allowed but good sports!

What's next is people will start running for balls that ricochet off their bats because they intentionally ran on the pitch to block the stumps, and you and Strauss will say it's within the rules. There's unspoken rules between sportsmen.

There's also unspoken rules about taking the loss, and moving on.

And I don't see how it's England's problem if Smith can't take the pace. The entire game is about skill and endurance. If you can't match your opponents level then you will probably lose.

Or would you rather take a handout and have other's suggest that the team won only because England felt sorry?

WTF is this whole thing with smith's fitness, am i mistaken in thinking he was the only who showed up to work today in terms of batting and you guys go on about him getting cramps after hitting 141 bloody runs.

Leave smither alone he did his bit, we bowled and batted poorly.

Actually jk8 is not a troll lance he is just stating pure facts.

With the exception of smith the rest choked again. Another icc event at home and another exit in the round robin. What's worse is losing to one of the worst odi sides in the world. We would beat england 80 times out of 100 but we lose to them when it matters.:(

Oh well got to support the pakistani's or indians now unless sri lanka scrapes through.

Very very very disappointing that we didn't make it again :(. Great performance by Smith though.

Strauss is a w..ker. I'm sure our guys will return the favour in the upcoming series.

All the unpatriotic worms that crawled out of the wood work in this thread, please return to the abyss from whence you'll came.

Get rid if Mickey. Jennings has the pedigree to win big competitions. It takes something extraordinary to win big matches under immense pressure and I just don't believe Mickey is thorough or anaylitical enough to find the extra 5% we lacking to finish in the big comeptitions.

Oh well, yet another tough loss to swallow. Our bowling has been exposed, and we need to work on it. Yeah, Parnell took all those wickets, but at what cost? Seven runs an over is not on. :(

Its funny how Strauss was such a great sportsman a couple of days ago, but today its back to the letter of the law. I feel sorry for the next pom that gets cramps when they tour here in a couple of months time.

I am not convinced england are so poor dude, the aussies hammered them but i still do not think england are that poor.

England have no beaten 2 of the best ODI teams, i doubt that is lucky. To me england look as though they have a chance to win this comp.

Parnell isn't the issue. His role is to take wickets, which he did. Strike bowlers tend to be expensive . Bret lee was also expensive early in his career but he got wickets. The guys who need to be questioned are the support bowlers.

One good tournament doesn't make a side a good odi side. They are having a great tournament but lets see how they go in odi's through out the year.

Both SA and Sri lanka played poorly in those games, well below their standards. England beat them in one off games. SA and Sri lanka would beat them in a series.;)

So 2 one off games beating 2 of the world best teams is just random luck?

I think not, the aussies just nailed england but that does happen from time to time, look how to thumped the aussies in their own backyard in odi's. If there was 7 we could have nailed them 6-1.

In tournament games a side can get lucky because its with whoever is better on the day. In a series generally the better side will win 99% of the time.

Strange game. Small batting issues aside(prince and so on) we batted quite well in the first three games. All three times we put on what was essentially 250+, which is overall a pass mark.

What i cant understand, though, is how we could allow 320 runs to be scored against us twice in three games. Poor showing by the bowlers who looked unmotivated and lethargic. I hate to say it, but todays bowling smacked of arrogance. You swear we thought we just had to show up to bowl them out.

I would love to see a guy like kepler coach the team. I enjoy his comments, you get the sense he doesnt deal with any esoteric hogwash and understands what is needed when its needed. He possesses a kind of "nuts and bolts" assertiveness and intelligence.

what that chicken ass had to say:

There was controversy in Centurion when Strauss refused Smith the assistance of a runner when the big left-hander began to suffer from cramp towards the end of his innings.

However, England's skipper defended his tough stance saying: "The umpires weren't happy about it and I felt it wasn't one of those things we could allow. People often get tired at the end of long innings."

Miss a game at your peril

Jonty Rhodes, Sunday, September 27, 2009

(Before the match)

Just about every game is a knockout from here onwards which is a fantastic endorsement of the format of the tournament because there's no cruising for the players and no blinking for the supporters. Miss a game at your peril - you might not see your favourite team again.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the tournament so far although I have the feeling that we've only seen the support act so far and the real thing is about to burst onto stage. It only takes a couple of brilliant individual performances or a really close game, a classic contest and suddenly everyone is talking cricket.

It looks very obvious to me that the tournament is being played in a great spirit and there are plenty of smiles on the players' faces. I wonder whether that might become a feature of the ICC Champions Trophy. With $2 million at stake for the winners I'm not suggesting for a moment that the players won't be taking it seriously but it's not the ICC World Cup and, perhaps, this tournament can provide an opportunity for players to remember the spirit of cricket.

Andrew Strauss set a great example in that regard when he called the batsman back when he was run out after colliding with the bowler. That sort of gesture sets an example that thousands of kids might, one day, decided to copy. Just as kids can swear and spit and do other nasty things if they see their heroes doing them, so they can mimic the good stuff.

England were very good indeed against Sri Lanka and if they pitch up in the same frame of mind against South Africa on Sunday then they could well ruin the hosts' party. Supersport Park in Centurion is very different to the Wanderers, however, and a dry surface has favoured the spinners more than the seamers. Up until now the ball hasn't really swung at Centurion - if anyone can make it happen I guess James Anderson would be a contender.

Herschelle Gibbs is available for the Proteas once again although it was interesting to hear Graeme Smith speculating about the possibility of Hashim Amla retaining his place at the top of the order. Hashim is playing well and is probably a more ‘reliable' option than Herschelle but it would take a brave man to leave Hersch out. He's unique – capable of playing more audacious innings than just about anyone else. And he's still got the X factor in the field, even at the ago of 35.

It is still possible that at least one semi-final place could be decided on net run-rate. In my opinion the players shouldn't even consider that until well into the game. Get yourself into a winning position and take it from there. If you take anything for granted, if you assume victory, you will lose. Then run-rates are irrelevant anyway!

Parnell took three wickets at 6/over, Steyn one wicket at 5.90/over, Morkel and vd merwe no wickets at 7.5/over and Botha two wickets at 6.2/over

....yet you have a go at Parnell?

As for Smith....unfitness is not an injury...if you get cramps ...as many do...towards the end of a long innings , you need to improve your fitness.

I remember Ranatunga being refused a runner for cramps too...the Aussie fielders (Healy ?) said "being fat isn't an injury"
...on a related note, when he was stuck on his crease they said " put a mars bar on a good length and he will come out of the crease":D

please let any team but England win a world cup, ICC or any tournament. They still remind us constantly of their 1967 soccer and 2003 Rugby world cup >_< the world will never forget!

Did you guys hear the comment yesterday after that SA born NZL player came to bat. "It seems that South- Africa could enter 3 teams in the tournament, half the English team is South African " :D

if England wins then there are either 2 reasons :
1) Match fixing
2) Terrible conditions in favour of the English

Lol.......... Damn, this must be a hard pill to swallow, what makes it even worse i suppose is that its the English who have knocked SA out.
