We took murali for nearly 6 an over. So really it was only the one spinner we couldn't get away and he also bagged the key wickets which is why we lost. If the pitch was dreadfull slow then we wouldn't be scoring at nearly 6 an over vs murali.

Regardless smith should make his decisions based on the pitch and not what he always does, that is my point here.

I understand we failed in every thing possible including the choice to bat or bowl but smither needs to make his decision based on looking at pitch not thinking ok supersport park we bat second if we win the toss and i don't care if the pitch will be better for batting first up. Surely there is a reason they inspect the pitch or is that just a formality in world cricket?

Errr scoring 6 an over when you need 8 an over is not exactly a good thing...
Murali is still a dangerous bowler...

Anyhow
Go Pakis!!!:D I hope Asif plays...

Smith had a very poor game as captain. As I said in my earlier post, SL milked our spinners through mid on, he should have brought mid on up to make them change their tactics. Sangakkara did a much better job - look how he shuffled his field - I remember for a couple of overs he even had two short covers just to force out batters to do something different.

You know.. I'm watching this game, seeing a brilliant pace pitch and thinking CSA F**KED the Protea's due to their disagreements with gauteng.. I mean sure they were rusty bowling yesterday but just think this.. the finals etc is all in centurion, so either way they made it harder for the team :O

Sorry if this has been posted, not gonna go through whole thread now....

Words from JP Duminy:

How does that song go again? "It's going to be a great night..." That certainly was NOT the case at SuperSport Park last night. Could I have had a worse evening personally? A couple of missed run out chances, a first-ball duck and the team lost badly.

What can I say other than these things do happen in cricket? Dilshan played a superb innings, where everything he tried just came off. He again played that audacious scoop shot of his, but I always get the feeling that there is chance of getting him out. Yesterday it just worked for him.

You must also be asking how did let that one get through? Well, Mendis is a really tricky bowler and he really bowled well on the night. If you don't face him regularly, he does tend to rush you, and that's what I think happened there. I'm sure that 9 out of 10 times I won't get dismissed by that ball. Unfortunately, it's that one time that counts.

I know for sure that all the guys are disappointed after such a great crowd came out to support us, and we know how crucial the next game is. If we lose, that's the end of our tournament.

We have a practice session today, and our focus will be on improving our discipline, cutting out those tiny errors that crept into our game, and ensure we are mentally prepared come match day.

I'm keeping it short today, because I know it's what happens out on the field from tomorrow that counts.

Cheers and keep supporting us,

JP

I'll give the Proteas the benefit of the doubt here. They have not had a lot of match practice lately and the Sri Lankans have come off a few hard series. Let's hope we get back into the swing of things.

CAK Walton redeemed himself with a decent performance as wicket keeper.

Hi JK8, not sure if you got your answer but SA plays NZ tomorrow and a crunch game for SA. It's a must win or we're out of the tournament. We cannot count on mathematical equations :confused" or the like.
