Track changes ahead of Singapore Grand Prix

After successfully hosting the sport’s first-ever night event in 2008, Singapore is preparing to welcome back Formula One racing this weekend. Ahead of the paddock’s return, track officials have revealed details of modifications they have made to the Marina Bay circuit.

One of the most significant alterations has been to the pit exit, which has been realigned to join the track after the first corner. The entry to the pits has also been modified, with cars now leaving the track before Turn 22. After drivers complained of bumps at last year's event, the organisers have also resurfaced the track between Turns Five and Seven.

Discuss.

Not to mention loads of soccer :D.

Ah, yes how could I forget soccer.

Back on topic:

Engines - who has how many left?

Each driver may use a maximum of eight engines this season. Anything beyond that and they get a ten-place grid penalty per additional engine. With just four races remaining, most drivers are getting near the end of their allocation, meaning reliability will play an increasingly important role as the 2009 campaign approaches its finale.

Below is a list of how many new engines each driver has used thus far. If you drive a Renault, or have a Ferrari V8 behind you, then things are looking pretty rosy. If your name is Vettel, however, then you are probably slightly worried. The one unknown, of course, is how many of each driver’s used engines is still useable - and how much life each has left in it…

McLaren-Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton - 7
Heikki Kovalainen - 7

Ferrari
Giancarlo Fisichella - 6
Kimi Raikkonen - 6

BMW Sauber
Robert Kubica - 7
Nick Heidfeld - 7

Renault
Fernando Alonso - 6
Romain Grosjean - 6

Toyota
Jarno Trulli - 7
Timo Glock - 7

STR-Ferrari
Jaime Alguersuari - 6
Sebastien Buemi - 6

RBR-Renault
Mark Webber - 7
Sebastian Vettel - 8

Williams-Toyota
Nico Rosberg - 7
Kazuki Nakajima - 7

Force India-Mercedes
Adrian Sutil - 7
Vitantonio Liuzzi - 7

Brawn-Mercedes
Jenson Button - 7
Rubens Barrichello - 7

I was supposed to be in Singapore for this :(

Was there last year, was pretty awesome. Had Turn 1 Tickets, but next time I'll go for Turn 3. You look straigth down the straight, with a view of all the action up to around turn 3 and down the small straight after it.

Will have to watch on the TV this time.:(:(:(

Hamilton says it's not much better bump wise...
Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton took a swipe at Singapore's street circuit before qualifying on Saturday, calling the city-state's track "very dangerous."

The McLaren driver, out of contention for this year's title, complained that the road circuit was dusty and bumpy and that improvements promised last year had not been implemented.

"It's such a bumpy track and the ride on our car was quite poor," Hamilton told reporters in the paddock at the Singapore Grand Prix.

"It's shaking so much. The car is bumping and bouncing and sliding. It's still very bad. I don't really think it's changed at all to be honest."

Hamilton also hit out at changes made to the chicane on turn 10, where curbs had been built up.

"It's a lot worse than last year," Hamilton said. "Last year, it was a weird little corner anyway but it was quite good -- a quick left, right, left. Now it's big, fat curbs and there's no runoff, so it's very dangerous.

"I'm sure in the race someone will crash there. If someone blew a tyre and had an over-steer moment and slid and hit one of those curbs, they would fly. It's not very safe."

Hamilton said these issues had been raised at the drivers' meeting on Friday, and the sport's governing body the FIA would be asked for further improvements for 2010.

I would like to see a replay of last years planned crash.

I think a few years ago no one would fought of a night race.

Do anyone know how many watts is use for the lights.

"""""Am I missing something, or is the transmission of the qualifying session being delayed until 1915?""""""""

yes it seems like that.

Birdie told me that Barrichello has a 5 place penalty for gearbox change...
And Ferrari are out on softer tyres for Quali - I suspect they think they won't make it to Quali 3 otherwise. Fisi hasn't had a good time.

Raikonnen out of quali 2, as is Button! With the Brawns out of it and Vettel looking strong, it may just help RB somewhat.
