So im in the final stages of buying a 1.6 Polo Comfort line (the facelift model [R6] ) and this will be an upgrade from a little VW CitiSport 1.4i (2008), I really loved my little golf, it was nippy, had that clean Citi sound and gave a satisfying grumble when you accelerated. So no I'll be jumping to a car with ABS, power steering, AC and all the other great extras a Comfortline offers.

My only concern is, when I test drove it, my hair wasnt blown back, I was left a little wanting, the acceleration was only slightly better than my little Citi, the high revs on the highway werent much better than my Citi. But the finishes and the extras were easy to like and appreciate.

So my question to other 2010 model owners, whats your take on the car?

I've got a 2014 1.6 C/Line run-out model. I think the spec I wanted and bought wasn't too popular so the car stood at the lot for a long time. There are a few irritating rattles here and there. Apart from that the car feels like a quality product and could go on forever. R500 95unleaded gives me about 500kms at current prices with a heavy-ish foot (average around 8). The engine sound isn't as good as the previous Polos.

Those fog bulbs are expensive, where are you getting those and for how much? Mine lasted 30 000kms(both died within the same week) - always on. Had to drive around a bit before finding a Midas that sells them for around R50 each. Everyone else wanted R150+.

On the safety topic alone, upgrade.

Havent bought any bulbs yet - like you said they expensive and I will be stripped for cash after this car purchase. The car isnt new, has done 96000Km but for a 2010 model its still below the KM's it would have done, and its only going to be used for short jouneys for about another year so it should balance out.

Lol, thanks for that - I know the polo is better - and im so excited about it (waiting for finance to come through) - all im saying is that citi with only 30nm less torque than this 1.6 and it being as light as it was, was just a fun nippy car, and pushed your head back ever so slightly in 5th doing 100Km when you needed to overtake. Citi's just grow on you ...

Yeah but it's a death trap. It's like saying that being shot at gets you excited and blows your hair back. That feeling you get when the bullet just grazes your nut sack, it just grows on you...

LOL - of course it was a death trap - it was a car that had not been redesigned for 25 years, but the character they have makes them pleasurable to drive and you do grow attached to them, air bags or no airbags.

I'm more worried about that statement..
Do you have enough for new Shocks, disks+pads, clutch etc? obviously not immediate, but they will probably need replacing normally in the next ~20k km's depending on how the previous owner drove..

definitely! - for me to do 20 000KM is alot, i mean on my car between services I did 3000Km (make use of public transport when I can) so I will have time to save. But if you asking if it needed to happen immediately, then yes I could coverthe bill, but ill just be eating a lot of 2 minute noodles :D.

I ball ache over my car and keep a car stock... always, I am not really one for modding, the more stock it is the better I like it , so the car will always be loved!

I've got a 2007 Polo 2.0 Highline. When I drove the 1.6 and 1.4 Comfort Line Polo, I think it was in 2010 or 2011, it definitely felt like it had alot more kick than my 2.0 on take off, but after that is flattened out a bit. Still I felt is was quite an enjoyable drive.

I think it may feel that way because the car is alot better insulated than a citi golf. You may be used to the engine noise coming through the dash and the sound of wind rush over the very un-aerodynamic body of the car :)

Thats very true, I do love the engine noise of the little citi ...
Who knew squares were aerodynamic :p
I wonder how much quicker the citi would have been it it did have some rounded off edges and some better aerodynamics!

I read that as him planning a second job at a male strip joint to supplement his income.
