:DTicket sales for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the worlds largest sporting event, will open 20 Feb at 13:00! Here’s some helpful information on how you can secure tickets.

Ticket prices are more than reasonable, for as little as R140 you can find yourself in the stadium of a 2010 World Cup game!

Are you going to apply today? I am!

Unlucky for those that cant aford it, they have had lots of warning

Lets be honest, this is the worlds largest sporting event, if you havent been saving up for the last few years to purcahse tickets for the 2010 World Cup its your own fault. Rather people who have been saving up deserve the right to be able to go to the games.

I thought they were going to have super-cheap tickets for South Africans? For the ones who can't afford R140 per ticket? (Or do they think that R140 is super cheap?)

The OC and FIFA are giving out 120 000 free tickets to South Africans! You dont get much cheaper than that!

According to Fifa you are not allowed to resell the ticket. But obviously you know people are going to sell them on.

In germany, they had a little microchip in each ticket (and your name printed on the ticket). It was apparently encoded with your passport/id number. The idea was that at the gate, you could prevent people entry if their id/passport did not match what was on the ticket.

This didnt stop black market ticket sales or people from using black market tickets from getting in. I dont see it working here either.

I will be applying for all the games at loftus and the final. BTW for those who have cash now their are going to be other phase when you can apply. Only problem is it then opens for the rest of the world as well so its harder to get a ticket then since millions of people will be applying for the same tickets.

Category four tickets (the cheapest tickets) are exclusive to South Africans, so you dont have to compete with the rest of the world. +- 11% of all tickets will be category 4 tickets.

mmm well u could get team specific tickets but what if your specific team plays most their games in cape town and durban and u stay in johannesburg? U'll be paying a fortune to get there, it would be alot easier if we knew the groups and where each game were to be played. I don't want to rush this and buy tickets for the wrong teams or venue's.. I don't know why they need to rush this.. they obviously want to start earning interest already.. buggers

I can't open that shine2010.co.za link, hasn't been opening all morning

What happens if you don't get your tickets now? will you still be able to purchase them later, or is it on a first come first serve basis

It's 1st come first served. But judging by how the sales for the Confed cup are going, we South African's seem to love leaving it for the last minute.

I don't really care who is in the final, I'm definitely buying a ticket for it. We definitely know SA will play the opening game as well, so I'm going to get a ticket for that as well...

The rest, I'll wait till the draw is made later this year.

Not really, the first sales phase is a random draw for oversubscribed tickets i.e. you can apply for tickets for the final between now and the 31 March and there will be a lottery for who gets tickets.

So if I go to FNB later, fill in a form, I can pay like R700 for 5 tickets, and then any one I don't get I will be refunded for? Are all transactions credit card only?

They need to do it in phases in order to give everyone time to get tickets. People follow their team around a country for wc's it happens each tournament. You can apply later but no category 4 tickets will be left and you will be applying together with the overseas guys, so more competition for tickets.
