So I'm in the market for a new car, and have been eyeing the new i20 and the Kia Rio.
Currently driving a 2006 Hyundai Getz 1.3 A/C, trade in value around R30k.

Both the cars have very similar features/specs. The Kia does come with nice leather seats  but I think Hyundai might be more reliable?

I checked the prices of newish (2014) 2nd hand cars, but there's not much price difference (maybe R10k less).
What should I go for? Anything else I should be looking at in the same price range? (R200K)

Both cars are made in same factory and the exact same engine. So both will be reliable.

I think hyundai own's kia if i remember correctly.

I would for the new I20 .

The (very minor) f/lift Kio Rio already launched locally a few days back.

If it was my money it would be the i20 if it was between these 2 options. But I prefer the Clio & Polo the most in this segment.

The new i20 is around 10k less than the Rio Tec facelift and apparently has the most quiet drive in it's class but for sheer looks and the style factor the Rio probably wins. Overall same engine and same reliability though

Just got to take the 2015 i20 for a test drive, it certainly is a quite drive. I think that the "facelift" over the older model i20 was well done. But it is a 1.4, however only time I really noticed that was on a steep uphill, and performance was quite acceptable on the highway.

Now, I must decide if I want to take the Rio Tec facelift for a test drive (drove the previous model last year), and then make up my mind, or decide now. If I must choose now, it's the i20.

Ended up going for the Kia. No regrets :D

Respek! What made you swing that way rather than a new i20?

I drive the 2013 Rio Tec :D

To be fair on the Rio, will take it out again as well, and then make my final decision based on my opinion of the drive, plus whoever offers the better deal.

I know on my other thread about the Rio, some MyBBers even said buy Second-Hand rather, better value etc., which I found informative. However, have decided to go new.

Finally got to test drive the Rio on Saturday. I honestly can't say I noticed a difference in ride noise between the Rio and the i20.

The pre-facelift Rio and i20 had us preferring the Rio over the i20. After Saturday's test drive, this hasn't change, and will be going for the Rio, just need to decide whether I want to, and can , spend the extra on the sunroof and/or auto. That will all come down to budget.

You might be able to negotiate with them.
I wasn't going to go with a sunroof, but for the colour I wanted (white) they only had one with a sunroof in stock, so they threw in the sun roof for free.
