Granted it looks good and probably drives just as well but who buys these cars, their value just tanks guaranteed.

Are they that much cheaper than the equivalent German/jap/fords?

No they will of course not be much or any real cheaper than the competition.

That's acceptable if the product is of quality & all indicators are the new Pug 308 GTI is a quality product on all aspects.

Historically resale values were poor; we just have to see how this new one does.

Early indications is that on all aspects it's light years better than the old 308 GTI circa 2010

What is the estimated pricing at this point?

You are asking me to stick my neck out but I would say around ~R420k - R430k depending on the Rand in a few months time.

Also remember unlike Europe we are only getting the top spec 270bhp version that incl the LSD & bigger brakes.

We are not getting the cheaper 250bhp version...though in Europe the gap between the 250bhp & 270bhp versions are not that huge.

So realistically a Golf GTI is still a better buy. Will have better resale value. Will be way more fun to drive.

What the Golf does have more of is blandness and boredom. If you don't like the Pug then opt for the other German alternative one. From the people that live cars.

+1

The prospect of a raped 1.6T is a bit off putting.

That's where stuff is going in the future. The new OPC will have one and when the GSI returns it too will sport a 1.6T. Historically speaking they have always had more power than the GTI.

Which in turn does not come close a decat 2.0T OPC or Duratec ST 5-cyl 2.5T ... just saying. :whistling:

True, the VW will be worth more and have easy parts availability for many years to come.

That 2.5T is truly something else though!
