All-new E-Coupe. Looks very similar to the S-Class Coupe which in turn looks very similar to the C-Class Coupe.

"With its expressive coupé-esque proportions, clear and sensual design and long-distance comfort for four people, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupé combines the beauty and classic virtues of a grand tourer with state-of-the-art technology. It also offers the intelligence of the E-Class family with full smartphone integration, Widescreen Cockpit and the latest driver assistance systems with the option of, among other things, partially automated driving. Powerful engines with low exhaust emissions and comfortable suspensions with selective damping provide the guarantee of a sporty and agile driving experience.

After the world's most intelligent executive saloon, the Estate and the All-Terrain, the successful E-Class family now welcomes another new member: the Coupé. "With its clear, aesthetic lines, our new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupé appeals equally to heart and mind. It condenses contemporary luxury, agile sportiness and high-tech engineering into an automotive personality with esprit, offering exclusive, refined driving pleasure," says Prof. Dr Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

Based technically on the Saloon, the sportily exclusive Coupé marks a next step in the evolution of the Mercedes-Benz design language. With its perfect proportions, the new Coupé exhibits a puristic, surface-accentuated design with reduced lines and sensual forms. Both hot and cool, the reduced design idiom represents beauty and elegance while emphasising the Coupé's sporty and luxurious personality.

The coupé-esque proportions typical of Mercedes-Benz are characterised by a distinctive front end with low-positioned sports grille and central star, a long bonnet with powerdomes, a rearward-shifted, squat greenhouse and a muscular rear end. The dynamic looks are underlined by four frameless side windows and the absence of a B-pillar. With these clear forms, the design of the Coupé conveys an air of luxury and style alike."

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the new E‑Class Coupé ahead of its public debut at the North American International Auto Show in January.

The new coupé joins the sedan, estate and all-terrain variants in the E-Class line-up. It is, of course, based on the sedan, but features a long bonnet with subtle powerdomes, a rearward-shifted greenhouse and a fairly muscular rear end. Naturally, the side windows are frameless and the B‑pillar is absent.

Round back, the two-part LED taillamps – which are reminiscent of those found on the C- and S-Class coupés – boast a new “welcome feature”: when the vehicle is opened, the LEDs illuminate successively from the centre outwards; on locking the car, the light sequence runs in the opposite direction.

The four-seater coupé measures 4826 mm long (+123), 1860 mm wide (+74) and 1430 mm high (+32), making it significantly larger than its forebear. The Stuttgart automaker says this increase in dimensions boosts rear legroom, front and rear shoulder room as well as rear headroom, while the wider tracks front and rear ostensibly benefit driving dynamics.

At launch, there will be an initial choice of one diesel and three petrol engines, with a range of outputs from 135 kW to 245 kW. Mercedes says further engine variants and 4Matic versions will follow.

Perhaps the most interesting of the first four powerplants is the all-new 2,0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine doing duty in the E220d, which delivers 143 kW and 400 N.m, while returning a claimed average consumption of 4,0 L/100 km.

Meanwhile, the 2,0-litre turbo-petrol four-pot in the E200 is worth 135 kW and 300 N.m, while a higher output version of the same mill in the E300 churns out 180 kW and 370 N.m. The E400 serves up 245 kW and 480 N.m, which translates to a 5,3-second sprint to 100 km/h.

Since the E‑Class Coupé is based on the sedan, it will be available with the same range of on-board technology, including multi-chamber air suspension, a handful of semi-autonomous driving aids and a choice of high-resolution infotainment displays.

We expect the new E-Class Coupé to arrive in South Africa around May 2017.

2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe to get range-topping AMG E50 4Matic variant

New coupé range will be headed by an AMG E50 with a novel 450bhp powertrain

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupé line-up will be crowned by an AMG-engineered E50 4Matic mild hybrid model to be unveiled during the latter half of next year, Autocar can exclusively reveal.

To be launched as part of the extensive 50th anniversary celebrations planned for Mercedes’ AMG performance arm next year, the potent two-door will be among the first models to receive the German car maker’s all-new M256 in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that is set to have its debut in the S-Class.

First new E-Class Coupé rolls off production line

Production of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupé has officially kicked off at the German brand’s plant in Bremen.

The new E-Class Coupé was revealed at the North American International Auto Show back in December (you can read more about the new model here).

Based on the saloon, the coupé is already available to order in some markets. South Africans can expect a local introduction in the second quarter of 2017 (likely in May), with the cabriolet variant to follow in the third quarter.

Interestingly, the new E-Class Coupé is being produced alongside the C-Class Coupé and C-Class Cabriolet in Bremen.

The plant currently produces ten different models, the highest number of variants of any plant within the Mercedes-Benz network.

“The ability to build such a diversity of models in Bremen is made possible by a highly flexible production system and intelligent manufacturing concepts, for example by producing all our coupés and cabriolets on one line,” said Peter Theurer, site manager of the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant.

The international media launch of the new E-Class Coupé takes place at the end of February.

Mercedes' big plans for Geneva show revealed

The star of the Mercedes-Benz line-up at the Geneva motor show in the second week of March will be the new E-Class Cabriolet, which will join the sedan, estate, All-terrain and coupé to complete the E-Class family.

Mercedes-Benz describes the fabric-roofed convertible E as a four-seater, rather than a 2+2. Expect to see the same range of engines as the coupé (for Europe anyway, not all will come to South Africa) including a 140kW two-litre turbodiesel, a two-litre turbopetrol tuned for either 135 or 155kW and a 245kW three-litre biturbo petrol V6 - with the AMG E50 and E63 S Cabriolets to follow.
