F/lift V40 now with Thor Hammer LED's

"Volvo Cars gave its bestselling Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country the new face of Volvo for Model Year 2017 with trim updates across the range.

Central to the model year exterior updates are new grille meshes featuring the updated and more visually striking Volvo Iron Mark. The update also equips the V40 with the new 'Thor's Hammer' headlights, resulting in a confident new look shared with Volvo's new 90 Series cars.

"The V40 is the best-selling Volvo model in Europe and the second-most popular Volvo model globally, making it a very important car for the company. With the updates for model year 2017 we make this already very successful model even more attractive to customers in the segment," said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Customer Service at Volvo Car Group."

I really like the look of the V40. Even the existing one.

Still a bit pricey for me. (Then again, there's a 100% tax on all new cars here anyway, so everything is too pricey for me.)

FiestaST, would it be possible to make a thread with all new/newish small cars with 4WD? I know the small Suzuki has and some golfs now. It's pretty much impossible to drive around here lately without 4WD engaged in my Isuzu. 3cm layer of ice covering the roads. :/

Sounds hectic guy. The only Golf's with 4Motion (4WD) locally at least is the R. Ito of Suzuki there is no small model with 4WD; their new Vitara that launched recently has a 4WD option.

I'm guessing you are referring to that.

I can't recall of any small cars offered locally that have 4WD; unless you count a few 4WD crossovers & small SUV's as small cars.

Wrt a new thread I just like to make threads of relevant and/or interesting new models...no one seems to complain

Nah the little Swift here has 4x4. I was quite surprised, but damn they're expensive.

Starting price: NOK 234,000 (R 432,000)

It was a bit one sided yup from that Chick reviewer...the link I posted of the non-Cross Country model did favour better.

Just 2 points on this topic:

1) the V40 is a very good option in that segment but it just seems Volvo missed an opportunity to enhance it more

2) it's great that all models come standard with the "Thor Hammer" LED's

The previous V40 was one of the most remarkable cars in its segment at the time due to its fully-digital dash that could change layouts based on driving mode ... which unfortunately was an optional extra you had to specifically spec, which is why we haven't seen enough of it in SA. Seriously awesome tech at the time though.

Heck, you could still call it special in that segment, although it's less novel in high-end cars (Audi A4 anybody?). I wonder when the Golf will finally get an all-digital dash.

G7 f/lift should have Active Info Display as an option (VW branded Virtual Cockpit)

So many models!!

"A facelifted version of the Volvo V40 is set to be introduced in SA shortly. Here’s how much you’ll be paying for the updated Swedish premium hatchback.

The most notable change for the facelifted Volvo V40 is the distinctive headlamp design that mimics that of the award-winning XC90. "Thor’s hammer" (as the shape of the running light element has been nicknamed) is integrated into headlamp design and provides a striking front-on appearance for the V40. Between the front lights, the V40’s grille is more upright, again, like the XC90's. The exterior facelift is topped off with new wheel designs and a new Denim Blue paint finish.

There are 4 spec levels: entry-level Kinetic, mid-range Momentum, luxurious Inscription, and sporty R-Design, the latter of which rounds out the range. Volvo has specced all models with City Safety, which automatically detects objects and, if necessary, brakes the car to avoid a possible accident at lower speeds.

Three turbodiesel models and 5 turbopetrol models will be available from launch, all front-wheel driven. The D2 entry-level turbodiesel is only available as a manual, while the T3 and T4 turbopetrols are available in both manual and automatic. The D3 and D4 turbodiesels are only available in automatic.

Much of Volvo’s safety technology has filtered down to the V40 from the XC90, but many of the features are only available as options. Road sign detection, lane keeping aid, automatic parking, traffic congestion information and adaptive cruise control are all now available on the V40."

Power outputs are as follows (derivate names that start with T are turbopetrols, D: turbodiesels):

Volvo V40 T3: 112 kW and 250 Nm (manual is a 2-litre, auto a 1.6-litre)

Volvo V40 T4: 140 kW and 300 Nm

Volvo V40 T5: 180 kW and 350 Nm

Volvo V40 D2: 88 kW and 280 Nm

Volvo V40 D3: 110 kW and 320 Nm

Volvo V40 D4: 140 kW and 400 Nm
