The all-new model has been spotted completely undisguised during some shooting for promotional material.

2018 Volkswagen Touareg styling revealed ahead of official debut

Latest version of Volkswagen's large SUV targets the BMW X5 and Volvo XC90; it gets a more luxurious interior and an Arteon-inspired design

The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg has been spotted completely undisguised during shooting promotional material, ahead of a mooted reveal early next year.

Full styling, front and rear, of the large SUV is shown in the latest shots, which show the car in two different specs, with two different colour choices. The SUV appears to have grown in length from the current car, with a sloping roofline and clear inspiration drawn from the Arteon, horizontal chrome detailing across the front tying the two designs together.

A previously spotted model was largely covered, although it did have a light disguise over some of its details. It shows that the next-generation SUV will get a design influenced by its smaller sibling, the Tiguan, as well as the larger, US-focused Atlas.

The Touareg's headlights are sharper and more angular than before, while the tail-lights, which were hidden by fake light covers but are now visible, are also far slimmer than before.

Earlier sightings also suggest that the next Touareg's interior will also be more premium than before, with higher-quality materials and a larger infotainment screen. This is intended to help it remain strong in the battle with the upcoming BMW X5 and the Volvo XC90. The car's look marks the push upmarket of Volkswagen's larger cars, the Arteon in particular

Powertrains for the Touareg will include a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, which will likely be related to the one that was used in last year's Beijing motor show concept. That produced 381bhp and 516lb ft of torque, and could drive in full-electric mode for up to 50 miles. In its most economical mode, the concept was also said to be capable of more than 94mpg combined.

Below the hybrid drivetrain, more conventional turbocharged four-cylinder diesel and petrol units are likely to form the bulk of the Touareg's engine line-up. Volkswagen remains tight-lipped on engine options ahead of the car's official unveiling, though.

As is the case with the current car, all models will come with four-wheel drive as standard.

Pricing is likely to stay close to that of the current car, so expect an entry-level figure of around £45,000. No official debut date has been released, motor show debut in early 2018 is planned. First customer deliveries are scheduled for April, so an early year reveal is likely.

Spy Shots: Volkswagen Touareg

A production-ready version of the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg SUV was spotted at a photoshoot and these photos give us a clearer look at what it looks like. The new Volkswagen Touareg should make a market introduction at some point in 2018.

The big Volkswagen Touareg is a luxury SUV which has impressed us over the years, but it hasn't been able to quite deliver the sales. We suspect the allure of sister brand Audi's Q7 and the calibre of other German luxury SUVs have stifled the Touareg. This means that the next generation of Volkswagen Touareg needs to be better than good. These photos were taken at a film shoot where two models were being photographed and you can see that the vehicle has been given a thorough visual rework and it looks the part. Note the massive front grille with LED headlights.

The third generation Touareg is underpinned by the long-wheelbase version of the MLB platform that spawns models such as the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga and Porsche Cayenne.

The new Touareg will likely feature a 2.0-litre TFSI turbo petrol and a supercharged 3.0-litre TFSI V6 engine with a 3.0-litre V6 and V8 turbodiesel also expected. A plug-in hybrid version is also on the cards pairing a 4-cylinder, 2.0-litre engine with an electric motor.

The new Touareg will showcase a wide range of new technology including a stylish infotainment system lifted from the T-Prime GTE Concept that comes in the form of a curved 15-inch touchscreen and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster that provides information to the driver.

VOLKSWAGEN DROPS FIRST SKETCH OF ALL-NEW TOUAREG

Volkswagen has released a fresh sketch of the next-generation Touareg, which is set to be officially unveiled in Beijing in March 2018.

The Wolfsburg-based brand promises that the third generation of its flagship SUV will boast an “expressive design, innovative technologies and dynamic handling properties”.

VW furthermore says that its new Touareg – which will run on the MLB Evo platform already underpinning the Audi Q7, new Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus – will feature “one of the largest digital cockpits in its class”, as well as something the brand calls the “Innovision Cockpit”, a fresh type of infotainment system.

The profile sketch suggests that the new Touareg will feature Arteon-like styling up front, and a character line that rises over the rear wheelarch.

Of course, as long ago as March 2017, we ran a photograph of the new Touareg (alongside the new Polo) snapped at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg…

2018 Volkswagen Touareg confirmed for late March debut

The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg has been confirmed for a late March reveal, with a revealing sketch showing the look of the car.

Although the sketch reveals much of the car's look, its full styling, front and rear was shown in the most recent spy shots, which show the car in two different specs, with two different colour choices. The SUV appears to have grown in length from the current car, with a sloping roofline and clear inspiration drawn from the Arteon, horizontal chrome detailing across the front tying the two designs together.

Full styling and details will be officially released on 23 March at an event in Beijing, but Volkswagen has revealed that the car will benefit from rear-wheel steering and air suspension as the brand aims to sharpen its handling over the previous model, as well as being available with a new digital instrument cluster, which Volkswagen has named Innovision.

New VW Touareg: Seven Seats, Huge Touchscreen?

Fresh details about the new, third-generation Volkswagen Touareg have emerged online, with suggestions that the large SUV will for the first time be offered with the choice of seven seats and a massive, widescreen digital cockpit.

VW recently released a sketch of the all-new Touareg, which is set to be officially unveiled in Beijing in March 2018. The short press release that accompanied that sketch revealed that the new model – which will run on the MLB Evo platform already underpinning the Audi Q7, new Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus – will feature “one of the largest digital cockpits in its class”.

And, according to motoring.com.au, flagship models in the new Touareg range will be fitted with a curved glass touchscreen expected to measure a whopping 28 inches (that’s more than 71 cm wide) wide. This, of course, was previewed in the T-Prime Concept GTE of 2016 (see image below).

The report speculates that the Touareg’s digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen will be merged under a single glass panel in much the same way as Mercedes-Benz has done in its E-Class and S-Class models. However, VW’s version will apparently be curved slightly towards the driver.

The Australian publication furthermore reports that a twin-turbodiesel V8 will likely head up the engine range, positioned above a twin-turbo 4,0-litre petrol unit and 3,0-litre V6s in petrol and diesel flavours. Expect a plug-in hybrid version to be offered in some markets, too.

Volkswagen drops teaser footage of new Touareg

Volkswagen has released fresh footage teasing its third-generation Touareg, which will be officially revealed in Beijing in March.

The 54-second clip shows the partially camouflaged SUV testing on various road surfaces in Spain.

Earlier, the Wolfsburg-based automaker released a sketch of its next-generation Touareg, promising that the flagship SUV would boast an “expressive design, innovative technologies and dynamic handling properties”.

VW furthermore said that its new Touareg – which will run on the MLB Evo platform already underpinning the Audi Q7, new Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus – will feature “one of the largest digital cockpits in its class”, as well as something the brand calls the “Innovision Cockpit”, a fresh type of infotainment system.

That's a good advert, after the screw ads they have for the polo. Doubt if that's made by the same advertising agency.

Obviously different ad agency. The hated Polo ad is a local ad. This Toe-reg is precursor ad to the actual vehicle posted on their international YT channel.
