Holy smokes...check out this Vette! Freaking 755 horsepower!

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Chevrolet introduced the 2019 Corvette ZR1, a supercar that pushes Corvette's performance legacy with the highest power, greatest track performance and most advanced technology in its production history.

"I've never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there's never been one like this before," said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. "Its unprecedented performance puts all other global supercars on notice that the ZR1 is back."

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's exclusive LT5 supercharged engine, which is rated at an SAE-certified 755 horsepower (563 kW) and 715 lb-ft of torque (969 Nm), is establishing a new benchmark in performance. Further, the ZR1 elevates Corvette's track capability with two wind tunnel-honed aerodynamics packages, including an available High Wing that provides an estimated 950 pounds of downforce.

Most powerful ever

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's LT5 6.2L V-8 engine advances Corvette's supercharging legacy, which began with the 2009 sixth-generation ZR1 and continued with the 2015 seventh-generation Z06. The LT5 delivers the highest output ever for a Chevrolet production vehicle, thanks in part to a new, more-efficient intercooled supercharger system that offers 52 percent more displacement than the Z06's LT4 supercharger. GM's first dual-fuel-injection system, which employs primary direct injection and supplemental port injection, helps the LT5 achieve its record output.

Seven-speed manual and eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmissions are available with the LT5. It's the first time an automatic transmission has been offered in a ZR1.

Fastest ever

The 2019 Corvette ZR1's aggressive appearance is driven by function, contributing to its distinction as the fastest production Corvette to date.

An all-new front fascia is designed to channel air for propulsion-system and drivetrain cooling, with four new radiators bringing the heat-exchanger total to 13. A special carbon-fiber "halo" hood is open in the middle to clear the LT5 engine's supercharger/intercooler assembly. Additional features, including aero packages with stanchion-mounted wings, help push the ZR1 harder onto the track for more confident handling and faster lap times. Top speed of the ZR1 is over 210 mph.

"As the highest-performing Corvette ever, the ZR1's design supports its capability in every way," said Kirk Bennion, Exterior Design manager. "The new wings, for example, help generate more downforce without adding drag, enhancing road holding and top speed."

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will offer two aero packages: a standard rear Low Wing, which delivers the highest top speed and helps generate up to 70 percent more downforce than the Z06's base aero package, and an available two-way-adjustable High Wing that offers maximum downforce on the track for the quickest lap times - about 60 percent more downforce than the Z06 with the available Z07 Performance Package. All models also feature a Chevrolet-first, downforce-enhancing front underwing.

The adjustable High Wing is part of the new ZTK Performance Package, which also includes a front splitter with carbon-fiber end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer-only tires, and specific chassis and Magnetic Ride Control tuning for greater cornering grip.

Both of the ZR1's wings are tied into the chassis, like the Corvette Racing C7.R racecar, for strength and stability.

Sebring Orange Design Package

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 introduced today also debuted a dynamic, available Sebring Orange Design Package. Centered on its Sebring Orange Tintcoat exterior color, the package also includes orange brake calipers, orange rocker and splitter accent stripes, orange seat belts, orange interior stitching and unique, bronze aluminum interior trim.

The new design package complements the Corvette ZR1's tradition of offering maximum performance with refinement and design distinction. The driver-focused, well-appointed cockpit includes standard leather-trimmed seats, with sueded microfiber inserts offered. Heated and vented Napa leather-trimmed seating is also available, as well as a carbon fiber-rimmed steering wheel, competition sport seats, Performance Data Recorder, Bose premium audio system and more.

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 goes on sale in spring 2018, poised to take on the world's best.

Chev unleashes insane 563kW Corvette ZR1

This, General Motors will lose no time in telling you, is the most powerful Chevrolet production car yet unleashed on the buying public. Shown in public for the first time at the weekend in Dubai, this is the 2019 Corvette ZR1.

Yes, that’s not a misprint; the eighth-generation Corvette ZR1 will go on sale in the US late next year, but how is GM backing up its ‘most powerful’ claim?

With the 6.2-litre LT5 supercharged V8, available only in the ZR1 and wielding a Society of Automotive Engineers-certified 563kW and 969Nm, is how, thanks to a new, more-efficient intercooled supercharger system that moves 52 percent more charge air than the Z06’s LT4 supercharger, and GM’s first dual-fuel-injection system with primary direct injection as well as supplemental port injection.

It drives the rear wheels via either a seven-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission - the first time that an auto has been offered in a ZR1 - to a top speed of “more than 340km/h'.

Two aero packages

A special new front apron houses four additional new radiators for the car’s various cooling systems - bringing the total to 13! - and the special carbon-fibre ‘halo’ bonnet has a big opening in the middle to allow space for the blower and intake plumbing.

The available aero packages include the standard low wing for the highest top speed and an optional, two-way adjustable High Wing Package, producing 432kg of downforce for maximum traction and acceleration on track days. And, since the ’Vette has a composite body, both wings are mounted on brackets that extend through the body, to mount on the tubular steel chassis, as on the Corvette Racing C7.R race car, for strength and stability

The adjustable High Wing Package also includes a front splitter with carbon-fibre end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer-only tyres, and specific chassis and magnetic ride control tuning for greater cornering grip.

The signature Sebring Orange design package seen here is based on a custom metallic orange paint finish and includes orange brake calipers, orange rocker and front splitter accent stripes, orange seat belts, orange interior stitching and special bronze aluminium interior trim.

Heated and vented nappa leather-trimmed seating is also available, as are a carbon fibre-rimmed steering wheel, competition sport seats with optional suede insets, performance data recorder and a Bose premium audio system.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and 563kw of power is a sh*t ton of it! Let's hope it can utilise it all. As for 13 radiators...

VW: "We're going to put 10 radiators in our Veyron"
GM: "Hold my beer..."

MEET THE NO-NONSENSE 563 KW CORVETTE ZR1

The ZR1 badge has been reserved for the most hardcore of Chevrolet Corvettes since it was introduced on the C3 way back in 1970. And, with this latest generation arriving some 47 years on as the most powerful Corvette ever, the badge is as appropriate as ever.

The Corvette ZR1 receives a GT3-inspired aerodynamic package that includes a front splitter and a massive adjustable rear wing. The rear diffuser, meanwhile, is carried over from the Z06.

The most important alterations, however, are the ones made to the Corvette’s supercharged LT5 6,2-litre V8. Thanks to some revisions to the supercharger and the implementation of a dual-fuel-injection system, the Corvette ZR1 now delivers 563 kW and 969 N.m of torque.

This is sent to the rear wheels by means of a seven-speed manual transmission. For the first time ever, the ZR1 will also be available with an eight-speed automatic torque converter transmission. This power is put down on the tarmac by a set of Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres, while magnetic ride control is also standard.

There’s no word on how fast the Corvette ZR1 will accelerate to 100 km/h from standstill, but its top speed has been confirmed as being more than 338 km/h.

Inside, you’ll find leather bucket seats, a carbon-fibre/Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, an infotainment system preloaded with a performance data recorder and a Bose premium audio system.

Needless to say, we’ll be keeping an eye out for this one’s Nürburgring lap time considering that the C6 ZR1 of 2012 managed 7 minutes 19,63 seconds, making it the 19th fastest on the production car list.

2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 revealed

With 755bhp and 715lb ft, this is the more focused version the most powerful Corvette yet

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has been revealed in Dubai. Its 755bhp and 715lb ft of torque make the car the most powerful Corvette – and most powerful Chevrolet – built to date.

Chevrolet claims a top speed of more than 210mph, although no other performance figures have been provided. Acceleration is likely to be around 3.0sec, however, given the car’s 1598kg kerb weight.

The ZR1 is available with either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox, equipped with paddle shifters, marking the first time an automatic has been offered in the ZR1. Also optional is the high wing, which increases downforce by an estimated 431kg.

This high wing is two-way adjustable, although it reduces the car’s top speed, and comes as part of a ZTK Performance Package, including a front splitter and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. The chassis is also specifically tuned with the pack.

A low wing package decreases downforce in comparison, but it’s with this package that the claimed 210mph top speed can be achieved. Both packages feature a front underwing - a first for a General Motors car - that increases downforce. Both of the rear wings are attached to the car’s chassis – something Chevrolet claims will increase strength and stability.

Under the bonnet, the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, codenamed LT5, has a supercharger that's 52% larger than that in the Corvette ZO6 and is more efficient. Another GM first is the car’s dual fuel injection system, comprising primary direct injection as well as port injection.

Inside, the ZR1 gets leather-trimmed bucket seats, a performance data recorder and a Bose sound system as standard. Chevrolet will release more details nearer to the car’s on-sale date.

No price has yet been given for the ZR1, although sales will begin in the spring. A handful is expected to be imported to the UK, although no official imports are likely.

New Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible Spotted Testing Already

The menacing C7 Corvette ZR1 was only revealed this week in Dubai and already a Convertible version has been spotted testing in Florida.

Is this really necessary considering the new ZR1 comes with a removable targa-like roof? The previous generation C6 Corvette did not offer this option on their hardcore models (Z06 and ZR1) so then a Convertible would make sense but I guess it is up to the manufacturer in the end.

Redditor Coonark00 recently posted some photos of what appears to be a convertible ZR1 out testing. The convertible was traveling in a three-car convoy down in the Florida Everglades. Coonark00 said that “I fish down in the Florida everglades and I see these ZR1s testing fairly regularly. They come cruising by me, and often give me a nice throttle blip if I wave. They sound awesome!”

These shots may be our best look yet at the standard low wing of the ZR1, as well as a hint that Chevy may bring out a ZR1 convertible.

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible

Chevrolet dropped the top on the 2019 Corvette ZR1 with the global introduction of the ZR1 convertible, the first ZR1 drop-top since the original 1970 model-year ZR1.

On sale spring 2018 alongside the Corvette ZR1 coupe, the ZR1 convertible emphasizes Corvette's iconic proportions and functional sculpture, highlighting the seamless transition between the exterior and interior.

The ZR1 coupe will carry a suggested retail price of $119,995, while the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 convertible will start at $123,995 (prices include destination charge, but exclude tax, title and other dealer fees).

"The new Corvette ZR1 convertible is a supercar in all respects," said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. "Few others can challenge the ZR1 convertible's power and speed while offering the exhilaration of top-down motoring."

The performance and technology introduced on the Corvette ZR1 coupe carry over to the new ZR1 convertible. The strength of the Corvette's aluminum chassis means the only structural changes in the convertible are accommodations for the folding top and repositioned safety belt mounts. The power top can be operated remotely or while driving up to 30 mph.

In fact, the curb weight difference between the ZR1 coupe and convertible is less than 60 pounds (27 kg), with most of the difference attributed to the folding top hardware.

"The ZR1 convertible is a no-compromise supercar," said Corvette Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter. "Thanks to the strong structure, the suspension tuning between coupe and convertible models is identical, meaning the ZR1 convertible offers the same benchmark performance, including a top speed of over 200 mph."

Top speed-enabling aero, horsepower

The Corvette ZR1's unique aero package is central to the coupe's 212-mph (341 kph) top speed. Its standard, stanchion-mounted Low Wing generates road-holding downforce with minimal drag, enabling the benchmark top speed. This was evident during top-speed testing at Germany's Papenburg proving ground.

An adjustable High Wing is part of the new $2,995 ZTK Performance Package, which also includes a front splitter with carbon-fiber end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and specific chassis and Magnetic Ride Control tuning. It is designed to help generate faster lap times through maximum grip in the corners, with up to 950 pounds of downforce. The top speed is lower with the High Wing but still exceeds 200 mph.

Complementing the ZR1's aero advantage on the way to 212 mph is the thrust generated by the exclusive LT5 6.2L supercharged engine, which is rated at an SAE-certified 755 horsepower (563 kW) and 715 lb-ft of torque (969 Nm). A seven-speed manual transmission and a ZR1-first paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission are offered with it. Preliminary testing has shown 0-60 mph in under 3.0 seconds and the quarter mile in the high 10-second range when the engine is equipped with the eight-speed automatic.

The LT5 features a new, more efficient intercooled supercharger system, along with GM's first dual fuel-injection system, which employs primary direct injection and supplemental port injection. Compared to the supercharger system on the Corvette Z06's LT4 engine, the LT5 employs a larger, 2.65-liter supercharger that generates more boost while spinning at a slightly slower speed. That reduces heat to help maintain a lower air intake temperature for optimal performance.

Four new radiators also help manage cooling in the ZR1, which features 13 radiators in all, including circuits for engine oil, transmission and differential cooling.

A distinctive voice

A new, patent-pending exhaust system is the voice of the supercharged LT5 engine and offers the most aggressive sound ever for a production Corvette.

Building on the bi-modal exhaust system offered on other Corvette models, it features four distinct modes and sound levels: Stealth, Tour, Sport and Track. In Stealth mode, the ZR1 is quieter than the Corvette Z06, while in Track mode it is significantly louder.

In Track mode, a spring-loaded passive valve closes to allow virtually unrestricted exhaust flow for maximum performance. The exhaust note for all modes was carefully tuned to deliver a distinctive sound.

212mph Corvette ZR1 convertible revealed

The Corvette ZR1 convertible has been revealed, powered by the same 745bhp, 715lb ft, 6.2-litre supercharged V8 as the coupé.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed manual or an optional eight-speed paddle-shift automatic gearbox. The ZR1 has never been sold with a paddle-shift option before. Top speed is rated at 212mph, with a so-called Low Wing being deployed to generate downforce at high speeds.

Buyers can spec a Performance Package, which includes an exaggerated front splitter, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, magnetic ride control and a High Wing, which generates 430kg of downforce at the cost of some aerodynamic efficiency. Corvette says the pack will improve track times, but its fitment does slightly reduce the ZR1 convertible’s top speed.

Corvette claims that the ZR1’s aluminium chassis means that the convertible didn’t need substantially re-working from the coupe, with the challenges of accommodating the folding roof and repositioning the seat belt mounts being relatively easy. The roof structure adds 27kg of extra weight, however.

The ZR1 convertible's exhaust also features four modes, one of which is said to put the car in contention for the title of having the world's loudest exhaust note. The four settings are Stealth, which is quieter even than a standard Z06, Tour, Sport and Track, which is significantly louder than standard. When Track is engaged a spring-loaded passive valve closes to allow almost unrestricted exhaust flow.

The ZR1 convertible will cost from $123,995 (£92,500) when it goes on sale in spring 2018 - a rise over the coupe’s $119,995 (£89,500). Neither is planned to be sold in the UK.
