Brabus reveals (588 kW!) Mercedes-AMG G63 Black & Gold Edition

Another week, another modified Mercedes-AMG G63 from Brabus, with the folks over at the German firm revealing the Brabus 800 Black & Gold edition, sporting various cosmetic updates, added carbon-fibre and more power.

Under the bonnet, the most notable addition is the fitment of two high-performance turbochargers to the standard G63’s V8 engine. Thanks to the latter modification and a few others the Bottrop-based tuner doesn’t mention, the twin-turbo 4,0-litre petrol mill now churns out a whopping 588 kW and 1 000 N.m of torque, the latter available from 3 600 r/min. According to Brabus, the uprated G63 will reach the three-figure mark from standstill in just 4,2 seconds, before topping out at an electronically governed 240 km/h.

Epic Mercedes-AMG G63 Yachting Edition by Carlex Design

Just a few weeks ago, we were mightily impressed by the fine detailing of the Mercedes-AMG G63 Steampunk Limited Edition by Carlex Design and now a luxurious, maritime-inspired G63 Yachting Edition has been brought to life with a set of render which highlights what this upgrade package could offer.

Featuring a two-tone brushed-silver and black body, the G63 Yachting Edition is striking. The look is further accentuated with large 22-inch wheels and a specially-designed rear wheel cover. For the interior, Carlex Design provides 2 distinct options including a white-leather interior and a brown leather theme. Light and dark wood finishes resembling the decking of a yacht are seen in the load bay and both options give the G63 a classy look. The headliner appears to be finished in Alcantara with a special Yachting Edition emblem which is a visual reminder that this is indeed a bespoke vehicle.

G-Class Bakkie Render Is Our Kind of X-Class

The dismal failure of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class won't be forgotten and we'd bet the Stuttgart-based manufacturer would be keen to make amends. How about a G-Class based bakkie then?

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class factory will stop making this model in May 2020, instead focusing on producing the Nissan Navara. It was not a success at all, with dismal sales globally. Mercedes-Benz is likely a tad embarrassed by this blatant failure and potentially, could offer something that would actually find favour in the hearts and minds of the bakkie market. While not official, these Mercedes-Benz G-Class bakkie renders look fantastic.

Thanks to artist j.b cars on Instagram, we get a good idea of what a Mercedes-Benz G-Class single cab bakkie would look like. We know Mercedes-Benz can do a G-Class bakkie, there's been one on sale in Australia and Brabus has made a double-cab version which you can check out here.

Mercedes-AMG G63 gets menacing makeover (including four-seat option)

Hofele-Design, an automotive design and engineering firm, has unwrapped new cosmetic upgrades for the Mercedes-AMG G63, handing Affalterbach’s G-Wagen “sporty yet refined” modifications inside and out.

Up front, the G63’s AMG-specific Panamericana grille makes way for the tuner’s signature item, which can be specified in chrome, carbon-fibre or to match the bodywork (as seen here), while the Three-pointed Star is replaced by a Hofele-Design moniker. Here, the revised bumper features carbon-fibre and chrome appointments, the latter in a dark shadow hue. Atop the roof, the G63 has been equipped with a set of LED projector lights for improved visibility and added visual impact.

According to the Stuttgart-based company, one of the most important additions at the side of the box-shaped SUV are the electrically deployed steps, spanning the space between the multi-contoured carbon-fibre wheel arches. A design patented by the firm, the “Full-length Side Steps” incorporate the G63’s exhaust tips, which move with it. Stuart Whitmore, CEO at Hofele-Design, said “this retains the car’s iconic look, without compromising the functionality of the step for either the front or rear passengers”.

Brabus Reveals Hardcore G-Class Invicto

German tuning specialists, Brabus, have revealed a hardcore, armour-plated vehicle based on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

At the start of the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, I created a list of 10 Cars To Survive The Apocalypse featuring some impressive machinery that could very well ensure your survival when things get hairy. This new Brabus Invicto is yet another vehicle that you need to consider if you are looking to survive significant threats such as gunfire, explosions and all the apocalyptic stuff you see in the movies…

Based on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Brabus Invicto features what the firm calls a ‘Shelter Cell’ which comprises a ‘self-contained, self-supporting, bolted structural cell’ with no joints and the armour components are mounted to the cell without any gaps, which in effect is a full metal armoured jacket for ultimate protection.

Brabus says that the Invicto offers maximum VR6 Plus ERV protection standards which means it can withstand a sustained AK-47 attack and explosive attacks (up to 15 kg of TNT).

The added armour and other components has resulted in a weight increase of around 1 000 kg over a standard G-Class and Brabus therefore had to make modifications which include a reworked front and rear axle construction, new wheel suspension as well reinforced springs, stabilisers and shock absorbers. The braking system has been modified to cope with the added load and the special run-flat tyres that travel for almost 50 km after being shot out.

Spy Shots: 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Squared

Mercedes-Benz is working on an even more hardcore G-Class which will replace the 4x4 Squared.

Remember the Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4 Squared? That short-wheelbase offroad specialist with tremendous ground clearance? Sadly it never made its way to South Africa as it was never offered in right-hand drive, but chances are very few would have been sold as the asking price back in 2015 was something in the region of €226,100 which at today's exchange rate is around R4.3 million.

What you see here is likely the replacement for that vehicle and it appears our spy photographers climbed some trees to get these photos. As if the Mercedes-Benz G-Class didn't need even more offroad ability thanks to its tri-differential setup and decent ground clearance, this prototype looks ready to take on the toughest of terrain. Thanks to portal axles, 450 mm of clearance was available on the predecessor and it looks a lot like the new one is boasting similar levels of height.

Mercedes-AMG G63 boosted to 592 kW (and gets loftier top speed)!

The Mercedes-AMG G63 has been been upgraded by Performmaster, with its peak outputs hiked to supercar levels thanks to a raft of upgrades to the powertrain.

Using Affalterbach's twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 as a base, Performmaster fitted an engine tuning module and upgraded turbochargers with a larger compressor unit and reinforced axial bearings. With these upgrades, the G63's standard peak outputs of 430 kW and 850 N.m of torque have been increased to 592 kW and a whopping 1 020 N.m.

Mercedes-Benz Tweaks G-Class for 2021

Mercedes-Benz has given its G-Class a mild update for 2021.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the more desirable premium SUVs. Bulletproof offroad capability combined with sheer road presence combine and the result is one serious offering. For the new model year, Mercedes-Benz has announced a few updates for the European market.

The G400d motor is now available for all levels of trim. As it stands, this model is on sale in South Africa as the G400d Stronger Than Time limited edition. We're yet to drive this model and are eager to put 243 kW and 700 Nm to the tar and gravel, and sand.

Under the skin, Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new Desert drive mode, which is aimed at improving traction on sandy surfaces. The ESP and throttle responses have been recalibrated to cope with the trickiness of soft sand, and this mode is selected via the Dynamic Select switch.

Spy Shots: 2021 Mercedes-Benz G4x4

Our spy photographers have spotted the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class G4x4 Squared - the most hardcore iteration of the Gelandewagen.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one very capable offroader, but what if you wanted even more? Mercedes-Benz introduced the G500 4x4 Squared as a short-wheelbase SUV complete with monster tyres and huge ground clearance back in 2015. Now it appears there's a replacement on the cards.

Posaidon Pump Mercedes-AMG G63 To 940 HP (700 KW) And 1,278 Nm

The Mercedes-AMG G63 leaves the factory with 577 hp (430 kW) and 850 Nm of torque which is enough grunt to push the brick to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

Posaidon decided it needed acceleration similar to that of the Mercedes-AMG GT R so they gave it a healthy boost.

The so-called healthy boost now means the G63 delivers a whopping 940 hp (700 kW) and an earth shattering 1,278 Nm (943 lb-ft) of torque. With that extra anger, you will now hit 100 km/h in a ridiculous 3.6 seconds and go on to a top speed of 280 km/h.
