Scotland face disrepute charges over Japan match comments
TOKYO – The Scottish Rugby Union have been referred to a disputes committee over their comments about the potential cancellation of their World Cup clash against Japan, organisers said on Tuesday.
The scratching of Sunday's match in Yokohama due to Typhoon Hagibis would have eliminated the Scots from the tournament and SRU chief Mark Dodson threatened legal action to enforce a postponement.
Dodson had also said organisers would have taken action to ensure the match went ahead if it had involved world champions New Zealand, comments which could lead to a charge of bringing the game into disrepute.
"Under our tournament rules, we're very careful that people behave appropriately and as a result of that we've referred to independent disputes committee the behaviour and comments of the Scottish Rugby Union," tournament director Alan Gilpin told a news conference.
In the event, the match went ahead just a few hours after the typhoon ripped through Tokyo, with the host nation winning 28-21 to qualify for the quarter-finals and send the Scots home.
The game happened in Japan not China. World Rugby should relax a bit.![]()

After all their threats they lost...
It is time to build on Japan’s success and start the Seven Nations
World Rugby is desperate to expand the sport and inviting the hosts into a long-established competition would do just that.
...
I want to start a different conversation. How about Japan joining the Six Nations? I may be inviting ridicule and there are obvious logistical hurdles that would have to be overcome but can rugby union really say it is in rude enough health that it is not a question worth asking?
To be frank, after what Japan have done I would argue rugby’s superpowers need Japan more than Japan need them. There is no doubting Japan will be in demand to join a major yearly competition and from a selfish point of view, as someone who loves northern hemisphere rugby, I hope the Six Nations give it some consideration.
To address some of the logistical issues, Japan is a long way from Europe but that said, it’s a long way from all of the nations in the Rugby Championship too. I do not want to dismiss the extra strain it could put on players and supporters but if the Six Nations needs a bit of restructuring to make it work, then so be it. In any given year, the three existing teams who play away in Japan could have a rest week immediately afterwards. Japan could then base themselves in Europe to play their away matches in a block.
Almost bang on for the England/Oz game. Garces is reffing with Poite and Raynal his assistants
Urg bet its going to end up with some kind of penalty try/free kick to the wrong team to win it.
Makes me not even want to watch the game.
I also have a feeling the new red card for high tackle will determine a match in this WC. With the Japanese players so much smaller it it possible a SA player could high tackle them by mistake and get red.Expecting at least 2 knockout matches to be marred by red cards...
I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen, but I believe Georgia should be first taken into consideration for such an expansion.
Time to find a pub with a generator...Just bear this in mind, if those ****ers in Eksdom continue with their loadshedding it might affect the viewing. If it continues the same until Sunday I will be loadshedded just as the game starts
