Adding extra peace of mind is GX's now standard Lexus Safety System+, completing Lexus' milestone of equipping all models with standard active safety equipment.

Versatility best describes the luxurious three-row GX. It's not only engineered for all kinds of terrain, including extreme off-road conditions, it also displays exceptional craftsmanship throughout and seating for up to seven passengers. Heated and ventilated front seats are available as a standalone option for the base model and standard on Premium and Luxury models. In the Sport Design Package for Premium and Luxury trims, captain's chairs comprise the second-row seating.

The 2020 GX wears an updated signature spindle grille that gives it distinctive, standout style which better aligns with the entire Lexus portfolio. Flanking the grille are new standard Premium triple-beam LED headlamps that accent the grille's refined style. The available Sport Design Package puts an extra touch on the luxury SUV with special details, such as an exclusive lower grille surround, rear valence, side mirrors, matte black exhaust tip, scarlet taillamps and 19-inch alloy wheels with a Gunmetal Metallic finish.

Updated Lexus GX revealed with massive grille, new off-road pack

Lexus has taken the wraps off its updated GX, handing the luxury SUV a massive new version of the brand's signature spindle grille as well as an optional off-road package.

Although the GX isn’t offered in South Africa, it’s worth noting it shares much with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

The three-row GX460 wears an updated spindle grille, flanked by new triple-beam LED headlamps. In some markets, a Sport Design Package adds a model-specific lower grille surround, rear valence and side-mirror caps, along with a matte-black tailpipe, “scarlet” taillamps and 19-inch alloy wheels finished in "Gunmetal Metallic".

Inside, you’ll find a wood- and leather-trimmed heated steering wheel and plenty of semi-aniline leather.

The naturally aspirated 4,6-litre V8 petrol engine produces 225 kW and 446 N.m, and is mated to a full-time automatic four-wheel-drive system. A Torsen limited-slip centre differential distributes power 40:60 front to rear under most driving conditions and changes the ratio as needed based on wheel slip. The four-wheel-drive arrangement offers a low range for slow-speed off-road driving, while the centre differential can be electronically locked.

Lexus Updates its Land Cruiser

A Lexus Land Cruiser with a really big grille...

Lexus has revealed an upgrade of its GX SUV, which is in fact, a twin of Toyota’s Land Cruiser Prado.

Differentiated from the Prado by its enormous spindle grille – a styling feature of Lexus SUVs and crossovers – the new GX also mounts L-shaped LED pods in its redesigned headlamps.

Inside the cabin, it's similar to what awaits a Prado owner when they set out on an adventure – or their daily commute. The only difference is that Lexus has made the GX cabin trim a touch smarter, with aluminium and wood detailing.

With a ladder-frame Land Cruiser platform, this is a Lexus with prodigious off-road ability. The all-wheel drive system links with a Torsen limited-slip centre differential and there is a proper low-range transfer case for challenging terrain.

Posher (uprated) Prado? Lexus unveils rugged GX off-road concept!

Lexus has revealed a prototype version of the GX off-road concept, which it says was developed specifically for adventure thanks to its “unrivalled off-road capability”.

Although the GX is not offered in South Africa, it does share much with Toyota's Land Cruiser Prado.

According to Lexus, the new GXOR concept was “fuelled by the passionate GX owners”. The SUV is equipped with myriad features to make it even more capable when going off the beaten track.

What sets this prototype SUV apart from the standard model is uprated suspension, full underbody armour and 18-inch Lexus F Sport wheels, which are wrapped in General Grabber X3 tyres (size 275/79). A snorkel, roof rack, 50-inch roof-mounted light bar and 160 Watt solar panel are also part of the package.

Lexus is not the first brand you’d consider for a challenging overland journey across technical off-road terrain, but to prove what can be done – there’s the GXOR.

Built on the Lexus GX 460 platform (shared with the Land Cruiser Prado), this GXOR concept off-roader shows that Toyota's luxury division isn’t afraid of the rough stuff. The GXOR is a Lexus SUV upgraded to journey far away from the inner city suburbs or corporate life.
