TG's best electric performance car: the Rimac Nevera

Electric Awards 2022: the Nevera is next-generation stuff in *this* generation

Why did you give the Rimac Nevera an award?

Because thus far, the Nevera lives up to the hype, and delivers some genuine surprise. You may not be suffused with desire for a supercar without a V8 or V12, but there’s something special about the way this car goes about its business - if you’re reading Top Gear because you love driving, the Nevera is a warm promise as well as a perceived threat. No, not particularly comparable to the traditional super or hypercar experience, but no less valid for that. This is next-generation stuff in this generation, and Rimac is the original source. Others are coming, Rimac is the first.

First Rimac Nevera delivered to Nico Rosberg

Rimac Nevera with chassis number 001 was just delivered to Nico Rosberg. The F1 World Champion is enjoying retirement and growing his car collection with the Nevera taking a proud place next to the upcoming AMG One.

Nico has been involved with Rimac for a while now, he bought the C-Two back in 2020 and his enthusiasm for the brand helped him secure the first production slot for the Nevera. Each of the electric hypercars is built to individual specification and the Nevera handed over to Nico was fully customized with deep black paintwork, exposed carbon fiber elements, custom interior in black alcantara and highly polished aluminum wheels.

There has been so much going on at Rimac recently - the company is no longer called Rimac, after taking over Bugatti it is now called Bugatti Rimac. During the Nevera handover, Nico Rosberg asked Mate Rimac, the owner of the company, about his plans for Bugatti. The answer was enigmatic but pointing to a very interesting Chiron replacement.

Mate Rimac confirmed the future Chiron replacement will be powered by a hybrid powertrain, but one that’s unlike anything we have seen. There will be a combustion engine involved and the car will be highly electrified. Taking into account the Rimac’s expertise with powerful electric motors, we can expect the combustion engine to be responsible for providing electricity and not driving the wheels directly.

Monaco-based YouTuber takes delivery of first ever Rimac Nevera

37-year-old man meets Mate Rimac in person to collect the very first Nevera electric hypercar

Last month we brought you news that the first example of the utterly mad, 1,888bhp Rimac Nevera had been completed. That was chassis 000 however, which Rimac is keeping for itself: this is the first of 150 cars to be handed over to deep-pocketed customers.

And doesn’t said customer look happy? Travelling to Zagreb, Croatia, to pick up the £1.7 million electric hypercar, you can watch his entire handover in the 20-minute video above.

He’s met outside the factory by none other than Mate Rimac himself - founder of Rimac and now CEO of the partnership between his firm and Bugatti - for a quick tour of the facilities before the big reveal.

We’ll let you digest the details from the video for yourself, but there are so many cool nuggets of info. No one is allowed to touch the car without wearing white gloves pre-delivery, and there are 14 cameras throughout the car so owners can film and post track day videos without needing to wire up half a dozen GoPros. Clever.

Nico Rosberg takes delivery of first Rimac Nevera hypercar

Ex-Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg has become the first person to take delivery of the new electric Rimac Nevera hypercar.

Rimac is a Croatian electrification company that is rapidly growing. Based on the outskirts of Zagreb, the firm bought a majority stake in Bugatti last year and works with a number of other manufacturers.

It also develops its own electric hypercars, with the Nevera being its latest model.

Described by Rimac as the ‘world’s first all-electric hypercar GT’, it boasts a huge 1409kW, allowing for an incredible 0-60mph (96km/h) time of just 1.85 seconds.

It will also be limited to just 150 units, with 2016 Formula 1 winner Rosberg becoming the first owner of one.

His Nevera bears the chassis number #001, and Rimac said Rosberg wanted to go for the ‘full Batmobile spec’. It’s painted in Stellar Black with polished Vertex wheels and gloss-black brake callipers, while the inside is trimmed in black Alcantara and features a subtle signature from Rosberg.
