Cars, must have as many gadgets as possible but must be simple and minimalistic but can't have a touch screen or a menu interface for those things that get set once a year. Must be visible without moving eyes from the road but not in the line of sight.

Seems like the 'journalists' just need something to pontificate on to get to the magical 10 minute mark for YouTube ads.

Upcoming VW Golf GTI Cup (TCR) To Pack 286 HP (213 KW) Says Report

The upcoming 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI is currently in its final stages of development and we are expecting three variants to arrive as soon as this year.

The regular Golf GTI will return with its familiar 2.0-litre turbo four now making 232 hp (173 kW) and will come with a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch auto as an option.

Next in line is the GTI Cup* which has been inspired by the current GTI TCR derivative and will be the sportiest Golf GTI by a clear margin. Expect bigger wheels, bigger brakes, wilder aero, lower ride height plus a differential lock to boost front-wheel-drive traction. CAR claim the output of the GTI Cup will be 286 hp (213 k) and 370 Nm of torque.

Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI to drop TCR badge for Clubsport moniker – report

Volkswagen will reportedly not apply the TCR badge to the flagship version of its upcoming Golf 8 GTI after all, which suggests the Clubsport moniker could be revived.

According to Autocar, the Wolfsburg-based firm’s decision to pull out of the TCR racing series means it has had to rethink the name of what will be its most potent GTI. And "GTI Clubsport" seems the most likely option.

Is this the Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI before you’re supposed to see it?

An image seemingly showing the undisguised rear end of the Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI has found its way onto social media.

Posted to Instagram by wilcoblok, the photograph shows a white Golf 8 GTI wearing a large gloss-black rear spoiler (is this the Clubsport variant, perhaps?).

The pictured vehicle furthermore features dual-tone alloy wheels, a subtly lowered suspension and a pair of exhaust outlets (one at each corner of the rear end). The model designation below the Volkswagen badge has been covered.

The GTI is set to be the first Golf 8 derivative to launch in South Africa towards the end of 2020, with a 1,4 TSI variant and the flagship Golf R to follow.

That spoiler looks too flamboyant to be a vanilla GTi. Also, there is white tape on the side of the bumper near the wheel arch. Could that be another styling element or badge of some sort?

New VW Golf GTI: rear end revealed ahead of Geneva debut

Mk8 Golf GTI is one of four hot Golfs being launched this year, alongside GTD, GTE and R models

The rear end of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI appears to have been revealed on social media, ahead of the model's official debut at the Geneva motor show in March.

Instagram user wilcoblox posted what it appears to be the new hot hatch, a suggestion supported by visible differences over the recently revealed standard car, including twin exhaust outlets, a prominent rear diffuser and alloy wheels spotted previously on camouflaged GTI prototypes.

The sizeable rear spoiler - not a feature of the seventh-generation GTI - suggests that this could even be a limited-run, range-topping variant such as the Clubsport S or TCR.

Volkswagen will have a grand total of four hot Golf models in dealers before the end of 2020 - with the R going on sale a few months after the GTI, diesel GTD and plug-in hybrid GTE.

Following the reveal of the GTI and GTD at Geneva motor show, the R version will be shown in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The transformation from regular Golf to GTI is likely to be as subtly handled as previous variants. It will include the usual dual-exit tailpipes, red brake calipers, chunky air intakes and a bodykit extending around the lower portion of the car.
