https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby...pringboks-and-lions-savaged-for-turgid-series

According to the NZ press, the Boks does not know how to play rugby and that the recent B-I-L tour was a snore fest that did rugby a disservice.
Well, in 2017 NZ scored 66 points over three tests against the BILs. We scored 63? They scored 5 tries in 2017, we scored 4.

The BILs only managed two maul tries. We won, NZ drew.

Anyway, not sure what they expected. We have not played for two years leading up to the series so there was never going to be razzle-dazzle.

All the hate is simply a symptom of being top of the rugby hierarchy.

Every time the Lions didn't win a tour to the SH the team they faced also won the Tri-Nations/RC.

2001, 2005, 2009, and 2017.

When they beat the host nation that nation didn't win the TN/RC.

1997 and 2013.

Come on Bokke!

Weird...Marx would've been in my starting line-up TBH. Deba is good but not in a starting position ahead of Marx. Same with Nyakane. Give the main players more game time in these 2 games.

It not really weird, if Marx get going it impossible to take him of the field and them Debe get like 5 mins of game time. What happens if Marx and Mbonambi are both out injured? We have zero expiring at hooker. Give the next best No.2 some 40 to 60 mins and then let Marx run wild.

Hendrikse promoted to Springbok bench against Argentina

Jaden Hendrikse has been called up to the Springbok bench for Saturday’s Castle Lager Rugby Championship Test against Argentina in Nelson Mandela Bay following the withdrawal of Herschel Jantjies due to injury.

Jantjies pulled out of the match-day squad on Friday due a hip pointer niggle, prompting Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber to name the uncapped Hendrikse as the replacement scrumhalf.

The former Junior Springbok and current Cell C Sharks scrumhalf joined the Bok squad last week Monday in the build-up to the final Test against the British & Irish Lions – which South Africa won 19-16 to clinch the Castle Lager Lions Series.

“Jaden has been very active at training since joining the camp, so we are confident that he will slot into the team and adapt to our structures with ease if he takes the field,” said Nienaber.

“He has been comfortable in the role at our training sessions, and it has been encouraging to see how he has stepped up at this level since he joined the squad.

“Jaden has also been in all of our team meetings, so he knows exactly what we are expecting from Argentina and how we want to play, and he was one of the players in the expanded squad of 25 that have been preparing for this match, so we believe he will be up for this challenge.”

The match kicks off at 17h05 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

Revised Springbok team:
15 – Damian Willemse (DHL Stormers) – 10 caps, 5pts (1t)
14 – Sbu Nkosi (Cell C Sharks) – 11 caps, 40 pts (8t)

11 – Aphelele Fassi (Cell C Sharks) – 1 cap, 5pts (1t)
10 – Elton Jantjies (vice-captain – Pau, France) – 39 caps, 283 pts (2t, 63c, 49p)
9 – Cobus Reinach (Montpellier, France) – 16 caps, 35pts (7t)
8 – Jasper Wiese (Leicester Tigers, England) – 3 caps, 0 pts

How many times can a rugby ball bounce in favour of a team, I mean it’s not a round ball, it’s oval shape. Can a team honestly practice for the lucky bounce of a rugby ball. Rassie is not from this earth, how does he work it out???????

I'm not so sure about the new 50:22 law...
I agree, teams that like to play attacking rugby might benefit and teams that like to play kick and chase hope for a lucky bounce might struggle.
We shall see how these new rules play out.

It's a sad state of affairs... our national broadcaster can't afford to play the games of our national rugby teams on tv.

So only those who can afford dstv premium are able to watch rugby - until oneday we wonder why young kids in poorer communities aren't interested in rugby.... because they can't afford to watch it.

Part of the issue is that as much as we hate Multichoice they do pay the salaries at the end of the day - indirectly.

Anyway, great win by the Bokke.

New front row = gained ascendancy
Locks = were awesome
Loosies = great
Halfback pairing = surprisingly good
Centres = can't fault them
Back three = great, Willemse could be better

Nothing to complaints about for me. We won by 20 and got the bonus point with a "scratch team".

Jean-Luc du Preez joins Springbok squad

Springbok utility forward Jean-Luc du Preez joined the national squad in Nelson Mandela Bay on Sunday as additional cover at lock and loose forward as they look to defend their Castle Lager Rugby Championship title in the next few weeks.

Du Preez was a member of the expanded Springbok squad earlier in the season, and he returned to the Sale Sharks after Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber reduced the size of the squad following the South Africa ‘A’ matches during the Castle Lager Lions Series.

With one more Test in Nelson Mandela Bay against Argentina on Saturday and a tour to Australasia looming, Nienaber opted to recall Du Preez, who boasts 13 Test caps.

“We have a physically demanding Castle Lager Rugby Championship campaign ahead, which includes a long tour, and given the strict protocols in place to call up players to Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we opted to draft Jean-Luc into the group sooner rather than later,” said Nienaber.

“He is a seasoned player and understands the demands of playing competitions such as this, and over and above that he is familiar with our structures, so we are looking forward to seeing him back in the mix.”

For a team that made 10 changes and had a huge lack of experience, that was a very good performance.

They will only get better over time.

Dweba, Fassi, Nkosi, Wiese - all good games. The wingers missed a few hits, but will get better as they go and get more aquainted with the system and the new rules

Willemse just had a bad day at the office, hes miles better than that performance. Maybe nerves. He was given a massive responsibility
