Germany should have thrown the game, just score 3 own goals and then Costa Rica would have been through instead of Spain :)

And South America has fewer countries in the Cup. They should take away some places from Europe and give to South America.

There are countries in South America not even in the WC that are really capable of getting to the knockouts like Colombia, Chile, Paraguay. They'd have played better than teams like Wales and Belgium.

If those countries deserved to be there, they would’ve qualified ahead of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador, no? Also worth noting that CONMEBOL only has 10 eligible FIFA members, which is why they were in a single qualification round robin, compared to UEFA which has 55 eligible members, who had to go through an initial round, as well as a playoff round (if they finished second). Just makes sense that they’d have a larger allocation for the tournament.

If you’re looking for disparities and injustices (which it seems you clearly are), why no mention of CAF? It has 54 eligible members, but only 5 made it through.

The tournament will be increasing from 32 countries to 48 in 2026, with UEFA spots increasing from 13 to 16, CONMEBOL from 4 to 6, and CAF from 5 to 9. This comes at a cost, though, because there would be 12 groups of 4, and a total of 104 matches. But, it’s going to see a significant number of “meh” teams in the competition.

Last I've heard there will be 16 groups of 3 in the next WC. Have the plans change?

Oh hell no.

Why leave it at 48 - make it 96 so even more no-hopers can have a turn.
I don't hate the idea of 48 teams. It would mean that we'd almost certainly be seeing Italy, Sweden, Scotland, South Africa, Peru, Egypt, Ireland etc. A lot of semi decent teams, or well supported teams are missing.

2026 to be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. I see they're considering forcing all games ending in draws during the group phases will be forced to penalties to reduce closer tables (3x16 groups, top 2 going through)

I less group game for teams, 1 extra knock-out round

I have no desire to watch Bafana get humiliated and quite frankly Lesotho would probably put up a better performance.

Nor do I want the first two weeks to be little but getting rid of the weeds.

Where is the motivation for the likes of Italy , Sweden etc to pull up their socks in order to make the cut?

16 x 3 team groups with the top team qualifying to the round of 16 will have the same number of games as the current format.

Not how they're doing it though - it will be top two teams going to extra round of 32. Same number of games for the wining team vs this format, but number of total matches goes from 64 - 80. Same duration for the whole tournament.
