No banks or shops there
Looks like those in the list are more oriented towards the public service. He mentioned shops, banks and telecommunication and even JSE in the speech.
We'll probably get some better information tomorrow.

Nope you can't leave for the dog walk, the president literally said stay at home except for the list of exceptions. Otherwise everyone goes dog walking, beach sun bathing, etc, and then you end with what australia, portugal and the u.s are busy banning.

I stated on earlier threads that if you introduce rules that even normally law abiding people find ridiculous, you will undermine public buy-in. It's counterproductive to introduce policies that will reduce physical fitness, and increase a sense of "siege". In this respect I fundamentally disagree.

21 days of lockdown won't flatten the curve, if after lockdown people just return to normal behaviour. All that's doing is just postponing the curve.

But as you said, perhaps an intervention becomes available, or people actually start paying attention and taking it seriously.

Maybe, but based on the period for infection anyone who is currently infected will show symptoms during the lockdown period. So in theory at the end of the lockdown the only people who are potential carriers in the wild will be medical staff and any escaped quarantine patients, which should minimize the transmission rate.

There aren't enough police to enforce the laws as is. Are they going to set up roadblocks on every corner? Imagine stopping motorists and pedestrians to ask if they are going to work (illegal), or to the shop (legal). The idea is preposterous IMO...

Maybe not in the little back alleys streets in the suburbs, but the way shops and homes are distributed relative to each other will mean it should be relatively easy to prevent someone driving from one suburb to the adjacent suburb on the major roads without good reason, since most suburbs have their own shops.

You can disagree all you want while the cops or the troopie drags you by your ear back to your property.

I guess I'll be taking up to knitting just to pass the time.

Thank you to the Ruperts and Oppenheimers, sad to see the President doesnt donate any money.

Everyone, expect a mini apocalypse/pandemonium if they is load-shedding, I expect all the people without any income to go to extreme measures. Everyone should be beefing up their security to the max, along with holy water
What extreme measures - they're also confined to home

Will Internet services be operational during this lockdown? What about for those of us that live in rural areas and are using a Wireless Internet Service Provider? If nobody is allowed to leave their homes then does that include the people who keep these Internet services running?

Telecomms services are generally classified as "essential". We've been grappling as to how prove that we are doing that when potentially stopped at a roadblock too... It's not like we can just whip out a medical certificate or something.

Your knowledge of geography and topology is confused. Do you think the police are going to sit with Google Maps and plot a chart of which route I should walk to get to the nearest supermarket. Think about it for a second...

It is not ony the essential services that will be allowed to operate they include other professions. We should wait for the full list of businesess "in the upcoming days".

uhm 500 something for telkom and 89 for afrihost..

We're all at risk of having our internet cut if we haven't got money. All I can say is if things look bad, tell us about it here on myBB, someone MIGHT be able to help.
