As per last nights speech, i will fall into the
"All essential back-office services to enable salary and human resource departments to work so as to ensure smooth management of wage and salary payments " section.

So how does one travel, if i get stopped, what would i need? a stamp on my forehead? a ear tag? passport? or would a letter from my company suffice?
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't need anything other than your ID/Drivers License and your company's HR contact details and a simple phone call can clear up if you are who you say and why you need to be on the road.

Our company will provide us with "permits" saying that we are allowed to work, but it's only given to those seen as having essential duties. I'm assuming most other places will be doing the same.

Must you wear a musk and gloves when out in your car when the lockdown kicks in? There's rumours where police would arrest you don't wear these things. If you are alone in the car, why must you? I do understand that you must also show prove that you do work for a food distribution company (essential services) My company will provide that for all our employees.
Other things just require common sense.

Nothing that a printer and an idea of a company letterhead can't solve.

The point is as much as we denigrate SAPS, the average cop is pretty good at reading people and spotting holes in someone's story. There is no official government issued permit for essential service - imagine getting a permit to every shelf packer at Shoprite when government can't even get our ID cards or drivers licenses issued in a timely fashion, and the whole thing relies on people basically being honest.

That's true unfortunately. I'll be using a marked company vehicle whenever I have to pick up staff with a letter from the company. Hopefully people won't be abusing this and making life difficult for everyone.

This is true as well, perhaps a picture story should be done as well, in a soft squishy book, and a squeaky thing to keep his attention

I just laff my head off, it was 9am and people* were walking out with trollies full of castle. I got half a laff as I walked out with 1x case of Guinness.

*not hordes or zerg but the average amount of customers.
And I got a stare associated with complete madness when I simply walked past the bottle store.

Can someone please explain this lockdown to a brainlet like me?

1. The virus is most likely in the townships. A lot of people will go untested, meaning our numbers are actually much higher than reported.

2. They can't lockdown a township. There will still be a lot of movement in these areas. So the virus keeps spreading. Yes, it might be confined to the township, none the less, it will still be active.

3. Lockdown ends. Everyone starts moving again. Virus is still active and spreads just like before.

4. Extend the lockdown? Okay, just absolutely cripple the economy to "flatten the curve"

5. Economy is wrecked. Virus is still active. Virus now spreads again after lockdown is removed.

Yes, I am going to abide by the lockdown. I am just curious as to what we're trying to accomplish here in the longer scheme of things.

They are doing one thing.

Slowing the curve so the health services are not overwhelmed.

1. yes

2. they can lock down around the township, the limitation of movement will stop it spreading to other clusters, even if the township spreads it within itself one would think many would have died/recovered/have lower viral count when 3 weeks is over and lessen further spread.

3. yes, who knows at this point, it might be extended or maybe there has been some new developments.

4. possible

5. possible yes

You need to be issued with a permit to travel. Are you self-employed?

So did mine. I'm not on the essential staff list. Whee!

EDIT. Sorry Craig
