So how does one travel, if i get stopped, what would i need? a stamp on my forehead? a ear tag? passport? or would a letter from my company suffice?

Just wear a fake hazmat suite saying you're on your way to a containment if they even ask you, they'll leave you the fsck alone

So how do I get to the shop ?

They obviously want to limit travel between communities. If you live in Johannesburg, and you are non-essential what are you doing in Cape Town? The same would apply for people moving over long distances between suburbs. You live in Bellville, but go for a braai in Blaauwberg. Regional managers, area managers, etc. for example of essential services still need to travel between locations for management, and they require permits for doing so.

Going to your local shop in the suburb is acceptable, the same group of people which can be contained. If your preferred shop is 50km away from where you live then you are asking for it.

The question is rather how the government is planning on policing it. They will surely put their best effort into stopping people moving at night.

^ I'm in an obtuse mood, way too may looneys seem to have been let out.

But yes, I would think some kind of permit would be needed to travel on a highway for instance.

Can someone please explain this lockdown to a brainlet like me?

1. The virus is most likely in the townships. A lot of people will go untested, meaning our numbers are actually much higher than reported.

2. They can't lockdown a township. There will still be a lot of movement in these areas. So the virus keeps spreading. Yes, it might be confined to the township, none the less, it will still be active.

3. Lockdown ends. Everyone starts moving again. Virus is still active and spreads just like before.

4. Extend the lockdown? Okay, just absolutely cripple the economy to "flatten the curve"

5. Economy is wrecked. Virus is still active. Virus now spreads again after lockdown is removed.

Yes, I am going to abide by the lockdown. I am just curious as to what we're trying to accomplish here in the longer scheme of things.

While they can't lock down the internal movements of people in townships (and suburbs for that matter), Apartheid spatial planning was such that a lot of townships have limited roads leading in and leading out of townships. I think Soweto as big as it is only has two roads in and two out. This was done to secure the area, so the military/SAPS can take advantage of this and roadblock only those roads.

Who issues me a permit to go from Kempton Park to Alberton to fetch my daughter from my ex for the week?

I am in a similar situation. Luckily, for me, my ex is an essential employee and is enabled with dropping off and picking up our kid between her travels.

In my opinion, make a copy of your parenting plan and keep it close when picking up your daughter. The authorities will know that you put in that effort under the circumstances for proving your movement. If you don't have a parenting plan, you and your ex need to draw up an agreement for that responsibility and use that for proving your movement in the collection of your daughter.

There is a concillor from City of JHB that says collecting you kids is allowed, and I have from the family advocate that it must be done, so I'm just waiting for the Security Cluster guidance. Cause look, if you're allowed to walk fido, I'm allowed to be me, isolated in my car fetching my kid, no matter how far it is. Otherwise I just bump into my ex at an agreed upon PnP and she arrives with the kid and I leave with the kid - which exposes all three of us to far more risk.

My only concern is that the police who have training in various aspects of the law doesn't always interpreter the scenarios they find themselves in, correctly. Then add the army who follows a chain of command, with very little understanding of basic rights... Confusion and they don't like what they consider to be 'wiseasses' (even though you are likely to be the wisest under the given situation). My only recommendation is to take every possible precaution.

Must you wear a musk and gloves when out in your car when the lockdown kicks in? There's rumours where police would arrest you don't wear these things. If you are alone in the car, why must you? I do understand that you must also show prove that you do work for a food distribution company (essential services) My company will provide that for all our employees.
I've also heard that BJs are now mandatory to increase protein and exercise levels in adults. This must, of course, be overseen by an officer to validate and avoid any hardwood attack.

I have a forward that reads "The government has the right to test you for coronavirus, detain you until the tests are completed (which takes up to 7 days due to the sheer volume of tests)..."

Is there any legitimacy to this? Will I be randomly detained while out for a solo jog?

What makes you think it will be safe for her to see grandpa any time soon? I think it's going to be months before that's safe to do.
