This whole thing is ridiculous, and feels like an excuse for the ANC to go on a power trip. I'm 100% certain that the panic / crowded shopping caused by announcing this 3 days before it happened has caused infininitely more spread of the virus than I would by running on my own, or by taking the dogs for a walk - They usually go twice a day for an hour at a time, but sure, animal rights mean nothing, nor does exercise to people who dont do it.

Still wrapping my brain around the thought of not being able to walk my dog for the next three weeks...
It's a bucketload of energy to try get out of her in the yard, she's used to running hard and free on a field for nearly 2 hours every day :(

Yeah yeah, all the none dog people don't give a shît and think those with dogs are being selfish - but it's going to be tough.

I wouldn't put it past this racist government that walking the dog was regarded as a middle class "white thing". See Julius Malema's tweet about it.

I'll tolerate the no dog walking if they cut out cigarette sales too then, since children will be more exposed to cigarette smoke now.

Go live your life as a hermit then as AIDS can "technically" be transmitted through a cough. Most in the know agree that keeping a 1-2m distance and washing your hands is sufficient. Telling people to go overboard and increase frustration levels doesn't do any good.

Its cool I will be a hermit for now and not contract Covid 19 and put my pregnant wife at risk of catching it too.

I’m sorry, but this whole thing is veering away from a well intended attempt to curtail the virus to totalitarian bullying and the imposition of some sort of moralistic value judgement on the population.

Oh without a doubt, we have moved from the rational response into the down right ludicrous as well as the dangerous surrounding freedom of movement in the future.
It has become an exercise in power and control and even a blue print for the crushing of civil liberties as we move forward.

This is not good.

I have no confirmation yet but I have heard the BAT (British American Tabacco) factory here in Heidelberg isn't even closing during lockdown period.

So my local Checkers has a hardware and clothing section but by law they will not be allowed to sell me anything from those areas because the law says they’re not essential goods??

I can’t buy chemicals for the pool, let alone a bottle of wine - and by the way, the nicotine addicted might want to stock up as I have a feeling cigarettes are not covered by the list unless they are considered “food”.

I’m sorry, but this whole thing is veering away from a well intended attempt to curtail the virus to totalitarian bullying and the imposition of some sort of moralistic value judgement on the population.
I may have missed it but do you have a link to where is says shops can only sell essential items?

Insane... so now drugs are essential items too - better let my weed dealer know.

Damn.. I haven't been panic buying because shops will remain open.. guess what I'm doing tomorrow.

Tuesday was bad, today was very bad, Thursday is going to be crazy. Do you really need those items? Food can wait.

Not so sure food can wait, based on the above link - We're expected to live on canned food, frozen vegetables, rice and long life milk ?
No fresh fruit or vegetables ? No butter, or even bread ? No sweets or cooldrinks at all?
I was impressed with how government was handling this, but this really just feels like an unnecessary punishment for the sake of it now

I think its badly drafted (what's new?) Fresh food will be available, but supply chains may be disrupted.

I agree with you there, but the problem is, what's to stop police from enforcing against the regulations as they stand now ?

Hope it's badly written. Really not excited about these options.

The next question is, who thinks that this will end at 21 days ? Just going on Wuhan as an example, they're only ending their lockdown 21 days after cases stopped increasing - we're still way off of that. And if they do end in 21 days, surely it will still be around and we'll be back to square 1 ?

I don't think the police are going to get involved. Shop owners will deal with the rules.

If I can get my salad ingredients (lettuce, feta, chilli, onion) and meat I will survive.
