I beg to differ, how do you know the load pulls 2.5amps at any time? Just cause the current PSU is 2.5a doesn't mean the replacement must be. looks like higher than 2a is rare or pricey.

Regal Eltro have a 24 volt 40VA plug-in transformer. Overkill I know. I run a Rega Planar turntable from it
