Good news (i hope)

They're supposedly doing the same changes this weekend as they did for 128k users, so hopefully good speeds will come our way.

If you feel you need to get credit (or a rebate) you can contact call centre, give them all the relevant details. It will then go through to customer care who will then pull your logs to verify you haven't received the advertised speeds, then to financial and management who will then decide to grant you rebate/credit.

Apparently, and this is taken in with some salt as I don't believe this orc, that international contention ratio will be dropped even further if things don't improve (meaning they'll buy more bandwidth)

Also... and this is what is hard to swallow, they're aiming to have the same contention ratio of 4:1 for international that they have for local... and that they will switch to their satelites as soon as possible (rumour of beginning next year)

Lets hope for the best?

well dont count on getting speeds. Most 128K users are still battling...

What Sentech neeed are a revolution... cuz until they can give us consistent speeds I might as well use my trusty modem...

27.6 Kbps
3.45 KBps

Thats my killer international rate on 128 cant wait to either leave this cockroach infested sh1thole country or more broadband offerings come.

Until then Sentech seem to be switching good speeds from tower to tower. Check the forums... and see who complains and who doesnt... weird huh?

Vowthorn, which tower are you on? I am on the Menlo Park tower in Pretoria and I am getting "fairly" consist speeds. Using the tcpiq site mentioned in another thread, I am seeing download speeds of about 40Kbits/sec with uploads of about 60KBits/sec that reflects my international speed fairly accurately. My local with a program like getright hits up to about 110KBit/sec fairly easily (before it starts jumping around!). It has its moments of course. Certain times of the day I take a serious knock on speed, but I am now running the tcpiq software to give me hourly snapshots and then I will be in a better position to see what is happening.

I am not a happy puppy, but it is better than it has been in months. If the 256K guys are happy, I am going to be upgrading since I bought my modem, I need to use it. I already sent through an upgrade request, but made it subject to a number of conditions including acceptable performance targets. They have accepted the request and are discussing it. I am still waiting for a reply :)

I am on Tower 60 (woodmead)

I agree. Overall speed has improved for me. On weekends and during weekdays I get killer speeds. 8-12KB/s speeds international. But at night during the week when I like to surf International speeds as regular as clockwork tend to drop from 8-10KB/s to 2.9 - 3.2KBs at exactly 6pm on the dot... okay I have only been able to see this happen twice this week... but when I do come home at 6:30 speeds have dropped.

Monday I was home and at about 6pm I noticed the drop and yesterday came home early and thought I would see and sure enough from 5:55pm - 6pm speeds dropped from an average of 8Kb/s to 3.2Kb/s

Weird huh? I have got tcpiq but havent been arsed to use it... why should I? I dont mind slight drops in speed...
but why are we all analyising our net speeds all the time anyways... we do this cuz of our
crappy service provider who has turned us all into net speeed analysers.

I just want to experience those first few months I had on Sentech where I had a modem that worked and I got
do web development, surf and download and live my life... with out wandering if my modem would work.

The only positive this Sucktech situation has done is educate me in the likes of networks, speeds n ****.

My local is flying at 25 KB/s but intl is sadly still lagging at 4-8 KB/s. I will be leaving MW on the 30th of Sept. Will have a look at options again around Feb/March next year. 56k will have to do until then.
O.T. : I hope Iburst offers a 1mbit option as well that would be a first for SA home users.

Local SRT (from Saix) coming in at around 11 KB. Intl (cache off) below 2KB. Early this morning (5:30) both above 11KB. So, 128 might be *fixed*, if you're prepared to do your stuff when other ppl are sleeping

I wouldnt call it fixed...

Thats like saying I can drive my car at 160km/h when the engine is cool other then that I usally if I am lucky can get speeds of 80Km/h... How long would a car manufacturer last with that kinda of a product?
