I have seen lately that the 128K Users are getting good speeds and that Sentech are sort of fixing the problem.

Does anyone have an Idea on when the 256 and 512 Users will start getting better speeds????

Moos, you're not happy with your current speed? Come on - I find being able to download files at dial-up rates is stunning ;-)

Blob - speeds of 10-13K on a normal 56kbps dialup modem is physically impossible. Without ISDN, a normal dialup modem can only give u a best speed of 7KB/s...

Whatever software told you that you were receiving 10-13K is broken...

As i type this, i am downloading a file on a good 56K dial-up connection.
Its coming in at 23.5 KByte/sec or about 188 kbit/sec.

It is a highly compressable file (in fact is ful of NUL 0s)
telkoms ftp speed testing file called
ftp://196.43.1.13/test.file

edit: gripe

i wish my myWireloss 256 performed this well !

The connection is 115kbs ... and the speed was real .. I did a time vs file size comparison to verify ... it averaged 10.something (forgot now) ... it was from tucows.is.co.za

Well mine is very up and down this morning when I woke up the connection was between 10-20KB/s now it's down to crawling speeds so slow in fact that I can't even get a reading on Bandwidthplace so this is actually very slow the only consolation I have is that the local bandwidth seems relatively fast.

512k still sucks

Hell, my gran on a scooter with a memory stick is faster than Sentech's MyWireless!

256k also still sucks. Even local hasn't been great over the last few weeks. Max 12kB int'l but mostly it's well under 8kB - usually about 5kB. Local somewhere around 15-20kB with occasional spikes, and more frequently recently often slows down to 10-12kB.

Also, even though local is faster, it seems that there is a delay before you start getting the higher speeds - so when you first load a local website it initially downloads at 2-3kB for the first 30 seconds before cranking up to a higher speed. This has the effect of making browsing seem slow because everytime you surf to a new page there is a delay. This is not related to latency, though, I often get 50ms response times on these websites. It's just that they don't immediately start downloading at 20kB.

I actually think I would get better bandwidth on the 128k package - by the sound of it they at least get more than 5kB int'l bandwidth most of the time.

It actually really does suck - you monitor the speed all the time, and suddenly 20kB/160kb speeds seem amazing when in reality you haven't EVER seen anything close to the supposed 256kb this package should at least occasionally deliver.

So what's the point of a 256k or 512k connection if it performs the same as a 128k connection? Something really stinks with this arrangement!

I couldnt agree more with you guys. They need to add more compensation for the 256k and 512k Users. This is utter nonsense.

agreed there! either that, or they need to downgrade our payments to that of a 128k connection... and then instead of calling it MyWireless... they can call it MyConnectAt128ButItIsOnlyANumberNotTheConnectionSpeed.

mind you... that might be a b!tch to fit on a logo...
