I have been working my way up from the pits, so not much to cut on in the first place.

BUT I have tried to stop smoking on and off a series of times, investing in property is forcing me to quit as I will only just scrape through.

Just saw a new bar open up in rosebank JHB, and I can't help but think that's its the worst idea opening a new buss in this economy when everyone is cutting back

Alcohol never goes out of fashion. What would be even more prudent is an Alcohol supplier...

What I have seen happen is that when companies retrench, people take their package and then start a business. They do this because they don't look at the cold hard facts and numbers. They honestly and emotionally believe that they have a magical winning idea that is going to make them super rich. I have seen a few people end up completely destitute as a result.

As a small buss owner who worked in corporate once upon a time, I agree 100% that people have this idea that a SME is financial freedom, if successful.

But like you said, people don't see the numbers and think that they have the winning formula only to get bitten badly when things crash.

As for that bar that opened, it's a sports bar so I don't think they'll do too badly but they must have balls of steel to take the chance in this economy, especially the interest rates on loans etc
