Of the 31000 scientists, 9000 hold Phd's.

Sadly this research is not very popular in the media because it is not sensationalist.
Nothing is going to change and the world will not drown so nobody is interested.

The peer reviewed research paper here -> http://www.oism.org/pproject/s33p36.htm
The petition here -> http://www.oism.org/pproject/
The "Global Warming Myth" video (hosted at discovery.org) here -> http://www.discovery.org/v/30

Some of the facts:

1) Sea levels have risen 7 inches over the past 200 years and is not related to CO2. It is directly related to solar activity.
2) The temperature of the troposphere should increase if the release of hydro carbons is responsible for global warming. It's not.
3) When a 3 fold increase in hydro carbons is observed the global temp DECREASED.
4) Weather is not getting worse, Atlantic hurricanes & land based storms remain the same (not more, not less) - Only media reporting is getting better/more sensationalist.
5) CO2 is a "fertilizer" and not a pollutant.
6) More CO2 = greener forests & accelerated plant/timber growth.

There are so many things wrong with this its not even funny. In short its bullsht & the fact that it was published in a *medical* journal is a strong indicator of this. As if that is not bad enough, they picked an extra sketchy medical journal:

Also, have I mentioned that the vast majority of the signatories have absolutely no clue about global warming? They've got PHDs in all sorts of interesting areas...few related to climate research.

From Wiki:

In May 1998 the Seattle Times wrote:
Several environmental groups questioned some of the names in the petition. For instance: "Perry S. Mason", who was a legitimate scientist who shared the name of a TV character. Similarly, "Michael J. Fox", "Robert C. Byrd", and "John C. Grisham" were signatories with names shared with famous people. Geraldine Halliwell was added as: "Dr. Geri Halliwell" and "Dr. Halliwell." This name may have been contributed by a proxy trying to discredit the petition since Ms. Halliwell has never admitted to signing the petition.
Asked about the pop singer, Robinson said he was duped. The returned petition, one of thousands of mailings he sent out, identified her as having a degree in microbiology and living in Boston. "When we're getting thousands of signatures there's no way of filtering out a fake", he said.[21]
In 2001, Scientific American reported:
Scientific American took a random sample of 30 of the 1,400 signatories claiming to hold a Ph.D. in a climate-related science. Of the 26 we were able to identify in various databases, 11 said they still agreed with the petition —- one was an active climate researcher, two others had relevant expertise, and eight signed based on an informal evaluation. Six said they would not sign the petition today, three did not remember any such petition, one had died, and five did not answer repeated messages. Crudely extrapolating, the petition supporters include a core of about 200 climate researchers – a respectable number, though rather a small fraction of the climatological community.[22]
In a 2005 op-ed in the Hawaii Reporter, Todd Shelly wrote:
In less than 10 minutes of casual scanning, I found duplicate names (Did two Joe R. Eaglemans and two David Tompkins sign the petition, or were some individuals counted twice?), single names without even an initial (Biolchini), corporate names (Graybeal & Sayre, Inc. How does a business sign a petition?), and an apparently phony single name (Redwine, Ph.D.). These examples underscore a major weakness of the list: there is no way to check the authenticity of the names. Names are given, but no identifying information (e.g., institutional affiliation) is provided. Why the lack of transparency?[23]
To the issue of duplicate names, the Global Warming Petition Project had responded:
Thousands of scientists have signed the petition more than once. These duplicates have been carefully removed from the petition list. The list contains many instances of scientists with closely similar and sometimes identical names, as is statistically expected in a list of this size, but these signers are different people, who live at different addresses, and usually have different fields of specialization. Primarily as a result of name and address variants, occasional duplicate names are found in the list. These are immediately removed.[24]

There's your problem. Try getting your science from scientists, not creationist apologist hicks.

The fact of the matter remains: last winter was one of the coldest in Europe. The forests (in Europe) are increasing in size at a alarming rate. Forget the scientists for now. Look at Google Earth and do the science yourself (note central and eastern Europe!) All what keeps the sea levels from rising are the sea sponges :D

I can't wait anymore for the sea level to increase. At least I don't have to go down to Durban on vacation :D

a) temperature increase comes FISRT, followed by CO2 increase approximately 800 years later. (once the oceans had time to catch-up)
b) during human industrialization we actually experience COLDER temperatures and increased forestation (CO2 is food for plants - primary school science anyone?)
c) human industrialization and rising sea levels are NOT related.

no one's denying that the planet is getting warmer.
we're simply not the cause.

anyone who thinks humans can heat a planet in 150 years needs to have their heads read (think forests, volcanoes, the oceans the SUN??)
we're simply too insignificant to have an impact on a planetary scale (in such a short time frame).

watch the movie (Global Warming Swindle)
oh wait, of course, those scientists are all fake/delusional as well.

There is nothing wrong with having evolved from apes. It doesn't make you any more or less human. If you think it does then that is your own insecurities talking.

At least the theory I back as the most likely explanation is actually supported by evidence. Unlike creationism. Take that bible-thumping brain-dead crap and flush it down the toilet.

What happens when you put cO2 into the atmosphere while you chop down all the forests?

A warm planet. Scientists reckon volcano's are the reason the planet warmed, they put cO2 into the atmosphere. We are putting 100 times more cO2 into the atmosphere than all the volcano's. Now if scientists are correct then surely it is logical that we are warming the planet?

I don't think you realize how much cO2 6-10 billion humans can create. I believe our biggest problem in this whole global warming business is that we are getting rid of forests. You would have to be somewhat foolish to believe we are not causing it. I think your heading should read: 31000 foolish scientists although i think perhaps the american part pretty much got the job done :p

Why is it that it's always the bluntest knives in the drawer that seem to want to fight reality at every turn?

Bluntest knives generally feel that they have the most to prove (or convince themselves of)?

Think of it as their subconscious mind vehemently protesting and they think that the more they yap to convince themselves of their own bull****tery, the sooner it'll submit?

Not evolved from an ape, are apes, as are you.

This entire thread is a great example of the Dunning-Kruger effect

Colder temp = the following : When the planet warms up, the ice caps melt. Cold water is heavier than warm water, which means it sinks to the ocean floor. This sinking of heavier water disrupts the currents flowing around the atlantic. These currents are responsible for bringing warmer weather from the south to places like...EUROPE. (You will see that if you take the latitude and trace it across from say England to North America, it ends up pretty much in Canada or very close to it. Canada's temperature is VASTLY colder than England's due to the lack of that warm current. (In fact, Ottowa is situated more south than London, yet there is a 13'C difference in average low temperature in the winter!) This means that England's temperature will become more like Canada's...this is catastrophic, because they just won't be able to deal with it. So Global Warming will in fact first become Global Cooling until the water starts evaporating.
As you pointed out CO2 is food for plants...but what good is the "food" when there ARE no plants? You can't convince me that deforestation has stopped. Who cares about a few measly trees in Europe? It's the OCEANS we should be worried about. 60%+ of the world's oxygen comes from the ocean -algae / phytoplankton. Too warm and they can't "live," too cold and they can't live. No water and they can't live. This ultimately means we're screwed unless we keep those temperatures at the right level.

(Wasn't it recently revealed that one of the biggest advocates of the "Global Warming Myth" -apologies, his name escapes me - admitted to receiving funds for his "research" from a large / various oil companies? THAT IS kinda' suspect, don't you think?)

This is, sadly, the reality of the situation.

Wow so because some scientists think that by humans polluting the earth is not having an effect on global warming, maybe we should just continue to pollute !! Woohoo

Yup this is what the big corporations want people to think. Going green won't help these giants rake in the money they do sadly so they spread lies and create doubt.
