Currently I am using a 42” 4K Hisense TV as my work monitor, running at 100% scaling, and essentially using it as 2 portrait monitors.

Real estate is great, but I think it is just a bit too large - too much eye and head movement.

the fact that it turns sleeps after a while of non-use is also a little irritating.

I am looking to possibly move back to a monitor.
32” looks like a good compromise between large real estate and eye movement.

however, there only seem to be 2 monitors available:
LG 32UN550 - https://www.wootware.co.za/lg-32un5...a-freesync-display-hdr10-desktop-monitor.html

Samsung (not sure of the model) - https://www.incredible.co.za/samsung-32-uhd-monitor

Both of these are VA panels.
99% of its usage is reading text (browsing web, programming)

open to other options too.

Ended up with the Samsung Smart Monitor M7.

32” 4K not quite big enough for 100% scaling, but finding 125% perfect. Still plenty of real estate to “emulate” 2 portrait monitors

Nice I've been wondering about size and if there's any benefit to 144hz refresh rate for programming?

I started using a 3rd monitor a few weeks ago.
So I have a 17" laptop monitor and 2 x 24".
Works especially good for the article/tutorial/API doc + IDE + debug screen, but the second 24" feels to big for me, with head movement and all.

i initially bought a 27” 4K with a view to purchase 2 of them.

I ran it dual monitor with my old 24” 1080p. I find dual desktop monitors too wide.

I also didn’t like that you basically have to run 27” 4K at 200% or text is just too small. So you just really end up with a super crisp 1080p setup.

I previously also tried a 4K 43” TV, but that was just too much eye movement that close.

did some work today and can say I am very happy with a single monitor.

not sure about 144hz, but if I use my HDMI port on my laptop which is only 30hz @ 4K I can definitely see the difference compared to running on thunderbolt port which can do 60hz.

my use case is 99% programming + reading/research

No, not in my experience.

27" 4K is a bit small, but I use mine at slightly less than arm's length at 100% scaling and it's fine. 32" 100% would be perfect imo.
