The idea was to decrease the cost of medicine therefore making it more affordable.

Instead what happened was allowing the elite to put pharmacies everywhere (clicks, checker pnp etc) and kill of the independent pharmacies.

The only people who actually ended up saving are the medical aids.

The irony of the transformation .....

Yup my uncle lost his private pharmacy when Dischem opened across the road. Just couldn't compete. Was a life's worth of work to get his own pharmacy, gone.

Shame man. Most people don't realise once this happened pharmacists lost almost 75% of their earnings.

Although dischem doesn't really count it was pharmacist owned before it went public.

However you cannot compete with the buying power of the chains hence you cannot match their pricing.

Sad thing is he now works at the dispensary of that exact same Dischem. Man he has character, I would not have done so on principal.

I think the R100K gross is plenty if you‘re single bloke or a small young family with relatively minimal overheads.

If you have the cliche 2.5 kids (school going), medium size house, 2 economy cars, medical aid etc etc it goes fairly fast.

I’m sure a clever fella will give a lekker real world breakdown.

A bit meaningless as those are mostly C-Suite / Director positions. They are corporate positions for which you would need to have worked your way up the corporate ladder.

Pfft that is child's play. 4 bar is what people are getting. Benefits included.

I disagree. You only earn real money once you specialize.

For example, my business is in need for a specialist in photogrammetry based AI. We're willing to pay up to 4 bar a year for it with a ton of benefits.

The dude who can write an API and do CSS and do SQL can move along and keep dreaming.

I'm almost sure @cguy could throw in a number of even crazier things.
