This is very sad news to me as well, still living in the UK atm. We have a 4mbit line, with restrictions only during peak times (4pm-12pm) where a max of 13gig is allowed for the month. Outside those hours its fair game. We do about 120gig a month between four of us, and thats just modest downloading and streaming video plus a lot of gaming.
My biggest concern however is World of Warcraft. My younger brother is playing on an unshaped account with a 2gig limit with relatively good ping. But since my mother started using Skype they have been running out of bandwidth each month. Now when I get back in December I'm gonna wanna game as well, and the effect this will have on the overall bandwidth consumption remains to be seen.
I seriously thought when I left SA in May of 2005 that when I get back in 2007 South Africa will have evolved into at least international standards for ADSL. All that I see however is the same old 'nerfed' line that was there when I left, with no apparent sign of any improvement or hope for the near future.
....should I start getting my things ready for the States?
