I'm miffed, this loadshedding is putting a stop to my 3D printing.. My inverter cannot keep up with recharging..

Agreed on this front.... I had started to print out my elevation map, and have done maybe 10% of it so far, but then LS means I have to put a stop to it... I have no idea what block/zone I'm on so when its gonna go off is a pure guessing game.

I'm going to have to shift to shorter print projects for the moment.

Out of interest, does anyone know of a modular 19" rackmount shelf that can be printed. I've hunted around a little bit and coming properly unstuck and I'm not all that keen on buying one atm.

**EDIT** Eventually found one : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4834583
It may not necessarily be the prettiest thing on the planet but it will do the job of holding up the mini-ups that now runs my interwebs and wifi at home.

To be honest, I'd probably wait for the S1 to be more available if you're happy to spend into that price bracket.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the V2 (from my opinion) and doing the upgrades would be cool, but to get it all as one package would just be so much nicer.
S1 now in stock with DIY, order placed :)

Thoughts on reasonably foolproof "plug and play" filament to start with?
Have heard good things about SA filament PLA, but stock seems to be an issue.
Have also heard mixed reports on petg in general, should I stay away?

So, essentially, if I'm getting 6 rolls as a "starter setup" what should I get?

I've had very good results over the years withe eSun, CCTREE and Hello3D PLA filament. All available locally and reasonably priced if you shop around.

Tried SA Filament, but wasn't that impressed to be honest. Maybe I had a bad batch, but the diameter wasn't very consistent in my Capricorn XS tube and it kept jamming, hence diameter issues. All the others were no problem

When I bought my Ender 5, I bought a few rolls of eSun PLA+. Not a single issue from it. Currently have rolls of CCtree which I bought on special from DIY Electronics on their Black Friday special last year, and they seem to be good as well.

Busy building a Voron 2.4r2 and trying to print ABS using an Ender 3.
Let me tell you, the Ender 3 is not made for this.
I put it in a cardboard box but everything is just breaking down in the heat of the box.
You are probably thinking at this point the electronics are the problem, but nope, they are outside the box.

Lead screws started making really loud squeaking noises (grease broke down, bought some EP2 grease for linear rails and used that instead now).
Then the lock nuts let go in the heat so X axis became super loose (multiple times, using high temperature blue thread locker now).
The wheels are not doing so well, they became really, really soft.
Plastic holding the BLTouch in place "melted" (PLA+ but it becomes really soft at 40+) and the BLTouch broke as it hit the print :'( (not the pin, the actual things holding it in place)
All of this at only 45-48℃, really didn't expect it to be such a big problem.
1/10 would not recommend.

Having done a lot of sourcing for my Voron I feel like the Voron Switch Wire is a better option than an Ender 3 (any edition)

Anyway now that my BLTouch broke, I'm thinking of using the Klicky Probe from Voron (video here if you haven't seen it)
The precision is higher than BLTouch and much, much cheaper.
Anyway, anyone build klicky for Ender 3 by any chance?

I never had great results with the BLTouch (genuine), so not too eager to go spending another $30+ on another

Ouch! Apart from the issues, how far are you along with your ABS printing? I read somewhere you need about 1.5kg of parts for the voron 2.4

Not far at all to be honest.
This crap all happened this weekend.
So I've had to reprint my direct drive mount for the Ender 3 in ABS+ so I can print my Voron parts in ABS+ ‍
I've printed all the electronics compartment parts and skirts for the Voron in PLA+ since it will not be subjected to heat.
The skirts and electronics compartment stuff took up nearly an entire spool.
I assume that the rest of the parts should be doable with 1x black eSun ABS+ and 1x red eSun ABS+; certainly the skirts seem to be the majority of the filament requirements.
I'm still waiting on the last bits I ordered for the Voron to arrive, so hopefully I can get these printed in time.

A few years ago I bought white eSun ABS+ and haven't used it, I used that just to setup the printer now and printed the replacement part for my Ender 3. Quality at the start looks great, and as the layer continue you can see how the X axis got loose and the z probe broke off because the quality went downhill REALLY quickly on that print.

Still the part is functional enough that I can use it in turn to print my other parts.

Sigh, what a mission. But that answers the question of "can I just print my voron parts in PLA then reprint in ABS".
They say no for a reason. Mine didn't even hold enough for a single print.

Old part (PLA):

The black is supposed to be one part that broke off and notice the broken wings on the BLTouch.
That side arm there, you can see how the layers delaminate from the heat.
This part looked perfect before. When I opened the box the next day the side was broken off and the motor was basically sitting skew in that mount.
I would have laughed more if it weren't for the broken BLTouch

New mount I printed in eSun ABS+

The quality isn't so apparent on this picture, but it is pretty terrible due to everything going wonky during the print.
But I left it overnight in a box, so obv. I had no idea.
It is functional tho after taking a utility knife, drill and heat gun to it to fix it up.

And yes, I know, I should be using another hotend, like the Voron Stealth Burner or something instead but for now I just wanted to get my prints done.

If you are in CPT area, I'll gladly assist with some ABS printing. Even if it is just for temporary parts.

Wow that is super generous, which printer are you using?
And yeah I live in Sea Point so am in Cape Town.
I really might consider taking you up on that offer because right now I'm struggling quite a bit and just need to get my Ender to the point that it can actually reliable print ABS

I'm using a CR10s Pro V2 with a Creality enclosure (it is just a tent really).

I've done quite a few hundred hours of ABS on it. And I still have LOTS of ABS left which don't get used that much nowadays. Lemme know what you need and I'll gladly help.
