Hi

Upgrade the control board to a btt skr 1.3 with silent drivers

For safety enable thermal runaway protection in the firmware

Then remove it from the cupboard
Have thermal runaway. Not upgrading the board or drivers. It will stay in cupboard.

I have a couple of questions.

Time frame for nozzle replacement (brass), what is the rule of thumb 5 kg or is it a matter of you will know when it is time ?

That depends on the filament type. PLA/ABS you can do a lot eg 100kg should be ok. Wood fill, carbon, metal you will need to replace it sooner. Taking it out and cleaning it every once in a while you will notice when it starts getting worn out.

It does have thermal runaway and it works. Thinking to also put in an led strip.

Which EZVIZ cam do you have?

Can they pick up sound as well?
Oh right, they pick up sound perfectly as well. and built in speakers so you can do bidirectional convos

Clever people. How can I safety proof this:
View attachment 1101337

I've put the 3D printer in the cupboard as wife said it makes too much noise.

I have a 10A Sonoff which I am going to connect.
I have that smoke detector, but only helpful if you can hear it.

Are there some other clever devices or things I can use to monitor heat in the cupboard etc.

Any other tips.

I assume you've added mosfets? I assume you've installed Marlin (I see the bed leveling sensor) so thermal runaway should help. Are you still running the stock PSU? Does your mainboard have a fuse on? I seen the newr Anet boards has one, which I guess can help.

I found that changing the bearings to drylin bearings reduces the noise considerably.

If you are up to writing some code, you could build yourself an ESP01 with a temp sensor. Can't say the effort yet but I'm going to be making a couple to monitor my roof temperature this year (want to see the difference insulation vs ventilation makes for an upcoming loft storage build).

You also buy: Xiaomi Mi Temperature and Humidity Sensor

No. It stays in closet. Now find a solution.

I've not yet bought mine but I'm going to pay the grand extra to get quieter Arnet from my local store. Will be putting mine in the garage as we have access to it from the lounge now (my lockdown project was smashing a doorway through a load-bearing wall, for another thread).

I never considered the heat buildup of the printer. This is going to change where in the garage it will go.

Had my printer now for many many years. Also not worth upgrading it. Will rather save up for an Ender 6 then or something.

Yes, even in garage you need to check where you put it and a way to monitor it.

Have mosfets. Have Marlin. Thermal Runaway working. Stock PSU with a fan attached. No fuse on mainboard.
Had printer since 2017.

Im just wondering best way to monitor it in the cupboard. The wifi cam and haveing a smoke sensor I can monitor remotely is a good solution.

I'm thinking to use a normal smoke detector and then the wifi or normal cam to send a warning when it picks up a specific decibels. But that temp and humidity sensor might also do the job with a bit of tinkering. Thanks

Its pretty much the same setup I have then, I had to replace some wires at one stage because they got really hot, cant think of anything else I would change.

Trust me on the bearings though, makes a massive difference.

I've tried all bearings out there, wasted a lot of money on them. back to stock bearings even if noisy.

Hey guys,
Anyone purchased from Hype Direct - hype.co.za?
Looking to buy a Creality Ender 3 V2 from them but not sure how legit they are.
Thanks
Hey, I've bought two pc controllers from them and everything went pretty smoothly. Think it was also free same-day shipping which was a nice surprise.

Just picked up my Antec 4 on my way home from work (that's what I'm telling myself) ... and FIL X filament. Going to assemble tonight and dive into the plastic crack world of 3D printing.

Will build a shelf in the garage this weekend for it. Will get a fire alarm for safety sake ;)

Mostly printing inserts and pieces for my oodles of board games, and some enclosures for Arduino projects with the kids.

Nice! We require some pics, and some FLP as soon as you have some.

I've never used FIL X, but want to acquire some of their SBS. PLA temps but has some ABS properties. Please review the printer and filament :D

Sure, will do a review once I've had experience as I'm a real 3D noob.

My initial experience on FIL X:

I'm a noob to all of this and this is the first time I'm using a 3D printer. The filament worked flawlessly for my prints.

Did the standard test dog print and then some thingy verse bookmarks (among us). Adhesion is perfect, with no bad printing marks (except a small one when the kids knocked the table the printer is on) and a smooth enough finish. The quality of the end product is what I wanted and comparable to the prints I see my wargaming group use for tabletop terrain.

Price: R265 from NextD

My initial experience on Anet 4:

The printer, well it was dead easy to set up. Took me 20 minutes to assemble, load filament and the first print took 2,5 hours - the test dog on the SD card.

Printed some bookmarks for the kids in under an hour. Kids are going to be keeping the printer busy during this holiday.

The printer is too noisy to keep in the house, will be going to the garage. The only negative thing I can say but I did buy it knowing I will get another one once I'm more experienced.

Hairspray:

Was told how important this is. First print, no hairspray. Second print, with hairspray (salon quality that is equivalent to Paul Mitchel brand).

Result: No noticeable difference

I feel this is down to the heated bed of the printer. I will continue to use hairspray as I've unlimited access to salon professional spray thanks to my wife owning a hair salon.

What I still need to test:

Priming: How well does it prime and will test Vallejo airbrush primer.

Rustoleum x2 primes anything, including water, so that would just be a waste of time, but I still use it for most of the miniatures I paint.
