Hi. Total newbie here but with some basic & decent understanding of 3G LTE routers.
Using: HUAWEI B315s 396
Location: 14km from tower, no direct line of sight as we are situated around a slight corner.
Stats (good weather): latency 60ms, D/L 5Mbps, U/L 1 Mbps
Stats (windy): latency 150ms, D/L 2.5Mbps, U/L 500Mbps
We work via skype video calls and recently bought this router to test whether we can get a good enough signal at home to save us having to travel to an office each day for work. We were quite surprised to see that the router works well enough for skype video calls even though local it guys said it wouldn't work.
However, when the wind pics up we have noticed the calls degrade enough for us to have to switch off the camera feed of one party in the call for it to proceed smoothly.
So my questions are:
1. Would an outside antenna, mounted clear from from trees and pointed up the valley towards where the signal is coming from help stabilize the signal when its windy?
2. Which antenna would you suggest? omnidirectional our classic yagi or other?
3. This router offers about 23db gain and I see external antennas offering on average about 13db gain. What kind of gain could we expect using an external antenna? A lower db gain from an external antenna is not going to restrict the higher gain of our current router right?
Thanks for the help everyone
