This is pretty much directed at v3g, but if anyone has any knowledge, please share :)

I am currently using a 75Mb Bolt-on on my Talk 500s package. With the new price reductions, it makes more sense to change that to a 500mb bolt-on (R189 against R88). If I change it today, how does it work? Will it only kick in on the 1st of next month?

My experience was that it took 1 calendar month to get my 250MB Bolt-On data bundle cancelled, i.e. I gave notice on 2007-02-28 to have my Bolt-On DB cancelled, and <insert_complications/> it was finally cancelled on the evening of 2007-03-31, I have now switched to a 500MB Ad-Hoc bundle which I know will cancel automagically at the end of this month, so that I can decide next month what data bundle size I want without having to bother with cancelling the previous month's DB...

Yep, same thing happened to me with a 150mb bolt on which I wanted to use way back while on holiday. Thing is I canceled it on the web and it never went through - had to then wait a further month after canceling it via call centre.

Other Options for getting Data on Phone Contract

I currently have two contracts with Vodacom

My phone is equipped with Talk200 and my data card in the computer is equipped with a 1Gig contract bundle.

Question: Is there someway of sharing the 1 gig data beween the two contracts? Either a fixed portion such as 10% phone 90% data card, but preferably dynamically and automatically.

I was under the impression that we can get a single sim card that has access to two tel lines, but the operator indicated that she was not aware of such a thing. If it was, I would activate sharecall on the data card number of my PC, and for the second sim, link this to a "dual" sim on my mobile phone.

V3G can you confirm that this dual sim is not an option or even suggest some other why of doing this without breaking the bank any further.

You need to read the following thread:
[thread=69034]Using one contract for both data and voice [DataSIM versus TwinCall]...[/thread]

IMO you will struggle to get the 2 separate contracts combined into a single contract for DataSIM|TwinCall usage.

Thanks for the advice. At least now I know what I looking for:
1) Combine my existing two packages into one product (single tel no)
2) Take up the DataSim

IC you mentioned that I'll "struggle" to do #1 (South African's are always busy with the struggle. )

Does this mean it is (Maybe V3G can help)
a) technically impossible due to regulatory and/or system constraints
b) possible, but not allowed by Vodacom
c) possible, but no one knows how to go about doing this.
d) possible, but no one so far could convince Vodacom to do this/get into contact with the right people at Vodacom to do this?

I think its possible but not allowed due to billing/contract issues.

In a nutshell what Syndyre posted :), but the longer version is that in order to use DataSIM or even TwinCall in the way that you want to use it to share a data bundle between 2 different devices, you need 2 separate SIM cards [one for each device] and those SIM cards have to be linked to the same account|contract.

The problem you currently have is that you have 2 separate contracts, i.e. the SIM card in your phone is on contract {A}, and the SIM card in your data card is on contract {B}.

If contract {B} is nearing the end of its term, then I suggest that you consider not renewing that contract, and then get DataSIM added to contract {A}, then add a data bundle to contract {A} which could then be used simultaneously by both your phone and data card using the 2 SIM cards associated with contract {A}.

Thanks guys, will keep it in mind in 24 mtns time - just renewed both the data and voice contracts!
