How long does this take? Days, weeks...

Bought one yesterday and have made a couple of calls this morning already where they said it will be active but still getting:

error 678, no answer

Normally about 4 hours, but could take up to 24. What did 155 say? And who is your SP?

Hi V3G,
To be quite honest 155 is very frustrating. I had to make use of a lot of patience to keep on holding on for someone to answer.
Hold times was from 8-15 minutes. Too long IMO.

Ended up registering on vodacom4me, didn't know password, so sent password reminders and all of these come thrugh to the 3G sim, of course.

Other forums suggested removing sim from data card, insert into phone, got SMS's (even ones for credit card payments, which is no where near to being mine, this cell number probably belonged to someone else), thus got vodacom4me password, etc.

Took sim out again, put in data card, start VMC software, type in PIN, and voila.
Now I was online, finally.

Is it the resetting of the sim or (re)registering it on the network or what was the problem here??

SP, CelluCity in Centry City, said numerous times as far as they can tell the card is active.

We sort of similar issues last night with GPRS in HoutBay, where on MTN guys got completely disconnected on GPRS. MTN data helpesk suggested they power down the phone, remove sim, leave it off for 2 minutes, insert sim, turn it back on again. This seemed to sort out the GPRS issues, although latency was still terrible.

I had similar issues with latency last night on Vodacom GPRS. Very bad. I didnt have to do what the guys with MTN had to do though.
Normally GPRS is very good, compared to fixed line connectivity of course.

Hi ic, no.
I selected the option (I think there is 4?) which said "HSDPA/3G and step down where applicable" or something like that, dont remember exact wording.

I didn't change the profile either in order to get it working in the end.
