Afternoon
I hope someone can shed a bit more light on this:
I have the Sony Erricson k800i (3G enabled) which I use this to connect to the internet... I followed the normal "create internet connection" wizard under "Network Connections" which is a normal dail-up using the phone as a modem. (A operator from MTN talked me through this).
Now this is working, BUT I get the feeling I am connected to normal GPRS and not 3G... When connected, and downloading something (went onto Google videos for example) - I kept an eye on the downloads and it seems to be in the region of 10k per second... I have fiddled with the "modem settings" and upped the "maximum port speed" from 115k to 915k (the highest available). When I connect to the internet, it displays connected at 915kbps but it is still as slow as GPRS... And yes, on the phone it does pick up the 3G network...
So I have two "concerns" / questions:
1. I have a 32k pay as you go sim card (I swopped airtime for data bundle) and not the new simcards from MTN that says "3G"
2. As mentioned I am using the normal windows integrated "modem dailup" software and NOT 3G specific software... Can this be the problem I am not connecting to the 3G network?
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
