Does anyone else think this is a little strange, consider, with MNP coming the ISP's can claim they're providing you with a service and the 3G number is actualy theirs so you can't use MNP with it?

I mean MNP is just down the street and the ISP's are now jumping on the bandwagon...

Am I blowing smoke here?

MNP = Mobile Number Portability

Would that mean one would be able to migrate from Vodacom to Mweb's 3G/HSDPA offering ??

Yea, in theory anyhow, but what if MWeb/IS or whoever, claims they bought the service from MTN/Vodacom/whoever in bulk and that the numbers actually belong to them and not the subscriber as they provide only an internet service.

thus, no MNP if you don't buy direct from an Cellular service provider.

On a more practical note, does it really matter anyway?
The reason (as I see it) for MNP is that you can switch providers whilst keeping the number that your clients/friends/family know...
If you're only using it for internet (i.e. in a data card), as the case would most likely be with IS, MWEB etc. - why would you feel the need to keep the same number when switching ISP's? :confused:
Unless of course you believe you have a lucky number :eek: :rolleyes:
