Hi Guys, bad news I'm afraid, TP-Link are not able to add USSD support to the TL-MR3420 and TL-MR3220, it seems from their feedback that its difficult to add this support because of the fact that the modem in not integrated (in which case it would have been possible). Sorry about everyone's hopes up but we did try.

Have a look at DD-WRT
Make sure to read their wiki pages first on how to flash it so you do not brick your router. If you are not an advanced user, register on the forums, and ask for help there. Be sure to read the prerequisites for posting, else you will not get help there

DD-WRT works GREAT on my Cisco E3000, and my E1820 is far more stable than my pc or notebook!

Can't seem to find any info whether or not DD-WRT would work on the DGN2200.

Thanks for the feedback kernel. Bad news indeed.

I wonder if the Cell C router has USSD support?

Pity. Could they not at least start with one manufacturer like Huawei and then add others in phases? Once you've done it for one Huawei device chances are it will work on all of them?

Don't know what that means but ok... Unfortunate. I guess we're stuck taking it out and putting it into a pc every now and then.

Edit: Well, unless CellC makes an online portal thing with the balance...

Holding thumbs, perhaps we should start pestering Cell C for this? /seeing they have a router now as well...

Thanks for trying ;), it's a real shame that they could not get this to work.

Still like the router though it has not given me any problems so far it just works

TP-LINK MR3220 and CellC white stick drops connection and don't reconnect

I hope somebody with this router can help me.

I bought the TP-Link router for my home network and it runs OK, the only problem I have is that sometimes (randomly) after sitting idle for a few hours the modem would lose connection. The router status page then displays the modem as being unplugged. Getting it to wake up is a struggle and usually resulting in me unplugging the modem so the router can detect it. I fiddled with the 3G connection mode settings and currently it is set at CONNECT AUTOMATICALLY with an idle time of "0" as I need the connection to be always on.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

If this is relevant, I have the modem on a 1.2m USB extension cable and my signal strength according to the router status page is 51%.

thanks

Does also it happen when you are not using the extension cable?

/I would suggest trying it without the cable.

without the extension cable my signal strength drops dramatically, so does my speed. So NO, I haven't tried it for a long period of time without the cable.

+1

Even try it with a couple of different extension cables.

Went to Uniterm direct near Century City in Cape Town to pick up my TL-MR3420. Got 15% discount because I'm a mybb member :) It pays to be a member of mybb :D :D

Anyways, router works as advertised. It was plug and play from the start. Hung my router in the roof in the garage where the signal is good. Also added a 1 meter extension cable.

It seems if you can separate the stick (I have E1820) from the body of the router the signal improves quite somewhat. Also, with the short extension, you are free to hang the stick away from any obstacles. When the stick was directly plugged in, I got 38% signal strength (btw how can the percentage be equated to dBm???). With the small extension and the stick hanging vertical from the roof I get 67% :)

I am still however using a test simcard with a few hundred MB's. Will only activate the 5GB package on the 16th to score the free gigs.

Speeds are up-and-down for me. With a weak signal while I was testing I got 3.4 mbit/sec. Then later about 4 mbit, now about 2mbit. Maybe the Western Cape problem is still lurking around.

Hey guys, I really am sorry that we we're not able to get the USSD support added, we did try, its sometimes difficult to explain to a big manufacturer the benefits of having features like this added to their product.

I've noticed a few guys pointing out that signal strength is improved when using an extension cable so to make up for the USSD let down, we'll throw in a free TP-Link UC100 USB cradle to any MYBB member who orders either the TL-MR3420 or TL-MR3220, any MYBB member who has already purchased a router before this promo can still get one for free but will unfortunately need to pay courier fees if they're unable to collect, proof of purchase will be required. Stocks are limited so we'll only be able to offer it until end January 2011 or while stock last (have 168 units left in stock).

There also seems to be some confusion surrounding the 15% discount when members are placing an order so to simplify this we've created 2 new stock codes that you can reference when ordering, MR3420-UC100 (TL-MR3420 + Cradle) and MR3220-UC100 (TL-MR3220 + Cradle) these are already pre loaded on our system at the correct price for MYBB members but will not be listed on our website as it is an exclusive MYBB member offering, you can order through the website but then just mention this in the comment field of the order or phone the order through.

Thanks again for the on-going support and great feedback.

Is there a theoretical maximum length that the USB extension cable can be before things start going tits up?

Yes.
And it also depends on the data transfer rate being employed by the device using the cable.

I hardly think that 20mb/s @ 50m is all that taxing.
