Hi I have a MNT data card, a huawai B68A 3G wireless modem, according to the MNT coverage map I have reception but we are on the edge - Simonstown. I bought a Omni Directional anntenna from Poynting (A-OMNI-0121-V3 All Band GSM Omnidirectional)

The ping is 1562 ms. The speed so slow it cannot be measured. I am not sure what else I can try: vodacom, Cell-C or Telkom sim cards.

Any ideas ;-(

Drive close to the tower and see if ping decrease.
How many towers you have in the area?

I have no clue where the towers are. :(

I have tried Cell C and it was a lot better.

I will try vodacom and Telkom as well.

You have RSSI indicator, possibly Cell ID too (like in B683). Use internal antenna, change orientation of the router and pickup maximum signal for the same Cell ID (the last digit not counting).

Hi RSSI indicator. Not an easy thing to find in the admin area.

BTW: I read another forum entry where the guys suggest tower congestion as the most possible cause. It's easy to blame something not in your own control. I have opened a support ticket with MTN. I will see if they get back.

One of the reason I suggested to drive close to the tower is to find out if it is conguestion or not.

MNT was amazing. Simonstown being on the pensinsula must be a challenge. All the greenies want to keep microwaves and other waves out of this area. Making it difficult for MTN and others to erect towers.
So I complained to MTN and they, today, installed a Poynting Direction antenna. And now my router is working.
