Another thing. Why would MTN upgrade the towers to EDGE, but not to 3G? Surely this should be done all at once??... to save some poor techie a trip??

Depending on the vendor used EDGE is an upgrade as opposed to completely new equipment for 3G.

Noticed that Strand and Sir Lowrys Pass also say Yello Broadband nowdays, not sure if this is 3G or what.

Hey there,

Everyone sorry to go back but are you guys still getting poor Edge speeds as the average for Edge should be between 80 & 120 peaking at 236

I called. End of Feb 2007.

Called again to follow up. Now they cant tell me more than "It will be this year". Something about MTN strategy... bla, bla, bla. What strategy?.... to frustrate me and therefore loose business! Empty promises now for more than 2 years already. Please stop f^%&^&*%^$ing! lying!

Come on! Surely MTN must have a project plan? Stop giving us cr@p. I want a straight answer. Vodacom has 3G already in this area, so start treating us with a little respect!

@MTNDD & Snakepit

I've also been inquiring about 3G in Somerset West in November last year. Why cannot they tell us Yes or No, or if yes, where and when?

How can they being doing the Phase 2 roll-out if they do not have a schedule plan(what and where by when)? The guys at coverage@MTN helpdesk is not helping at all. They keep saying they'll phone back within a day or two, or have a technician calling you within a day, but never ever did I receive those call backs. There is no personal customer attention. I know these guys work hard on phase 2, but like we see with Sony Ericsson's lack of communication, no communication is even worse than no 3G.

So I understand where johandutoit2000 is coming from. Phoning that number and emailing to that address means absolute nothing.

So what can we as MTN clients do?

We can just choose another network. It is so sad that it always has to come to such threats before something gets done. We are all adults. Tell us that the info cannot be provided, but dont change the answer the whole time. MTN, get your act together! Stop expanding into the rest of Africa when things are not ready at home yet. Hurry up! You are loosing customers!... and I dont mean hurry up with the rollout. I mean hurry up with the customer service improvements.

I got the inside info from someone at last! The problem is that MTN is dependant on Telskom for the backhaul. Telskom don’t deliver on their promises and then MTN looks bad. The latest is that it would be done by April, but we can be sure that Telskom would slip up again.

The evil must be eradicated from our sociaty. I truly hate Telskom. It is ironic that the main reason that I did not want to support Vodacom is because of the Telskom shareholding.

Cannot wait for the sh..t to hit the fan in the papers on Friday. Just maby it will pee off the right shareholder somewhere and scare him into selling his stock, so that the share price tumbles. Just maby Telskom wil inplode. Cant wait! I also hope that each and every goverment official with a shares will go bancrupt. They must suffer.

Okay here's some inside info

if it is Network Resource related there is nothing we can do until sites are upgraded. There is a serious shortage of E1 Links (Transmission capacity, I would say that we are a minimum of 1 link short per site due to Telkom non delivery and they are 7 to 8 months behind schedule if not more.

Thank you. I guess the lack of service from telkom is because they're in bed with VC..
