Hello everybody. Please please forgive me - I just need this little bit of space to vent before I drink lots and kick someones dog. Let me just say these few words then I will crawl back into my hole................

I want to share with you that I have had a 3G card and now HSDPA for a year. I have never in my life been so goddamned FRUSTRATED. Im no IT ignoramus, so don't blame my setup.

Esepcially where I live, in the Edgemead area, W Cape, when I work at night the connection keps dropping, and sometimes for hours on end I cannot connect. Or I 'connect' but no http traffic.

I AM TRYING TO RUN A BUSINESS HERE.

And have you ever tried calling the 3G helpline? OH MY GOD!. How many times must I delete and re-create the profiles? And how many times must I reboot? Well heres a newsflash for Vodacom. This is a crap service and no amount of reboots will fix it. And the time when I convinced them to log a call for the 'advanced' guys to attend to, I get an SMS the next day saying if If I still have a problem I must call the helpline. WHAT? Well YEAH I STILL HAVE A PROBLEM! And no jokes guys it takes 45 minutes to get a call answered. Again, I challenge someone at Vodacom to call that number. Go ahead MAKE MY DAY!

I have on a number of occasions hauled my laptop along to the Voda 3G outlet in Canal walk to beg for help. Nice enough guys, but my problem persists. And please will they stop advising customers to disable firewall protection because a firewall "affects 3G". Need I say more?

As soon as Iburst covers my area, I am giving my 3G card away to the nearest fool.

I am sending this to Vodacom as well as the newsgroups. Ha Ha as if Vodacom actually give a TOSS about little ole me.

Oh and my address is netafrica@webmail.co.za, cos I guess I can expect some harsh criticism.

@ Netafrica get ready for a influx of nigerian mugu scam mail to your e-mail. It's maybe not a bad idea to edit your post and remove your e-mail address...

I have exactly the same problem in Wierda Park (Centurion) The Vodacom dudes does not seem to get it right. Every time when downloading email, the link drops, en then you have to start downloading the same email again - and you keeps paying for the double downloaded data with your bundle.

Does anybody know how to get your contract paid-up as Vodacom cannot seem to fix the problem in my area, they should certanly refud my for services not used.

I am now contemplating moving over to MTN or Telkom. Surely some service is better than no service.

Why is the version of VMC so important. The fact that once i move outside Centuirion the system works perfectly, it is in Wierda Park where the vodacom network sucks. Even my Nokia 6680 does not work corretly on the 3G network.

btw i'm using the latest version of the VMC downloaded from Vodacom's site

Hi Hannes3G,

I was just trying to help - I have seen some prev. guys suffer random problems based on version 4,5 and 7. In your post I didn't see a mention that if you move from the area that the service is better. Vodacom3G has replied to your post so I will leave it in his good hands to solve - he will be able to help a lot more than me :)

Laterz !

I had problems a few weeks ago with my 6680 (also with my friend's 6680) that the connection drops every time the phone switches from 3G to GPRS.
Nickste and someone in Bloemfontein also reported this problem.
Dunno if it is still doing that, I lock my phone to 3G as I am in 3G coverage most of the time.

I have tried my datacard in Linux as well, and quess what, same disconnect problem. I have spoken numerous times to a Vodacom technical dude from Cape Town, but the problem persists in Wierda Park. I'm not going to move house just for the sake of Vodacom, i'd rather switch providers.

By the way, once i insert my MTN prepaid data sim in the 3G data card it works perfectly with the curent VMC and exact same internet apn as used for vodacom.

So the problem is? .... V#####m

Don't know about MTN but IMO, and experience, Telscum is <hesitating> better than Vodacom, service / stability-wise.
Speed Vodacom might beat now and then, but that's about it

I have come to realise it is simply a service that can not be trusted, yet.
