3G v GPRS

Why is it when im on the net in the front part of my house i get 3G reception with my laptop but when i go to the back part of my my house i only get gprs reception and by the way i dont stay in a massive house.The cellphone tower is about 1km from my house.

Without stating the obvious, the signal is attenuated by the structure itself. A wall can easily drop the 3G signal by 8dB.

inside a multi level factory my boss's son get no 3g reception on his card in his laptop, outside the factory it works ok

There probably is 3G reception but the data card or phone (which are you using?) chooses the stronger signal. See if you can set the card to 3G only. Some phones can also be set to 3G only, but only some models and then sometimes you need to load an extra app onto the phone to do this.

Thanks guys for the info.This forum is great.I get more help here than to call voda customer care.Dont need to wait for 24 hrs that a techie to call me back
